Originally it was a random 50:50 chance, but in the current release that has been removed (as I mentioned earlier). Now any system which meets the goverment and tech level criteria will have one.
Hmm, can't find this reference. Could you give me the precise information what the criterias are?
And is this "TL13" that has been mentioned as one criterion the displayed TL (1-based) or the internal TL (0-based, as in planetinfo.plist) value?

Yours, Christian

@ pagroove: For comparison three other shots of Griff shaders. All seem fine to me (certainly not as corrupted as the Superhub):

It looks like a bug which I had with the Oolite version of one year ago...IIRC there was some problem with AMD multicore processors - and it only did happen for a few ships, but that's long solved...

I've never seen something like that since that time.

OT

It's nice to see my ship in your example, Commander McLane, but please, not in that paint job. Please! Just scuffed, no paint.

This is the "Clear Air Turbulence":

And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

It's a nice little preview of Personalities OXP, though.

To get back on topic a little, I just noticed there's a minor typo in the shipdata.plist that's crept in (flase --> false). Probably not relevant to McLane's issue, but maybe worth a quick edit to check.

Anyway I've sent PAGroove an updated version with this and a little more housekeeping (I've put the 50:50 chance back). Once he has double-checked it he can update his hosted version.

Sorry to derail this topic.

I've already PM'd El Viejo and apologized for my wrong choice of Cobra for him. But I need some more help here. He wanted the "scuffed" version, and I just don't know which one that refers to. I am aware of three different Griff Cobras from two different OXPs:

from griff_normalmapped_ships:
griff_normalmapped_cobra_mkIII_(NPC or player)
griff_normalmapped_cobra_mkIII_cleaner_version_(NPC or NPC_trader or player)

from griff_cobra3_no_normalmap.oxp:
griff_no_normalmap_cobra_mkIII_player

None of those has the term "scuffed" in its shipdata, so I am a little at loss as to which version everybody is referring to as the "scuffed" version. Or is there another one around that I don't know of?

Do you think it is too big for my graphics card? I see it's 4096 x 4096.

Okay, I try to reduce it to 2048 x 2048 or 1024 x 1024 and report back.

Reporting back: Okay, this is how it looks with a 2048 x 2048 texture size:

Much more like it. So it seems indeed that my system can't swallow high definition textures. I am indignant, hadn't thought that of a 3 year old MacBook Pro! :?

There are some free GPU info tools which can also report the maximum size for textures - and as you write this, most probably the answer is yes. I've seen cards which did only support up to 2K

Maybe try this one:

EDIT: Ok, while I was looking for the program, you found that it works with 2K and this program is for windows...might be interesting for others with problems to test it, though ;)

@McLane:

There is another cobra mkIII version from Griff that was indeed called "scuffed" Cobra. I had a look through the OSE files but can't find it, Griff I assume must still have it, he published it in one of the two threads where he was showcasing his new ship models while they were not yet united into one oxp and under development.

Hope that helps

L

Edit: Actually a picture of it is here, the one with the red star methinks:

https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?t=6586

And it is called "less scuffed", not "scuffed".

I think El Viejo's 'Clear Air Turbulence' is the "griff_normalmapped_cobra_mkIII_player" from this oxp
Griff_Cobra_Mk3_normalmapped_original_scuffed_texture.zip which can be found at http://www.box.net/shared/rpkms25cc9 or in Dizzy's all in 1 version of these oxp's at http://s248731467.onlinehome.us/
edit: Dizzy's all in 1 has different decal designs, otherwise it's the same as the individual downloads
You can tell from the 'engines' on either side of the cockpit window in his screenshot, only the scuffed version of the cobra has those vertical bars along the front of them.

I think it's been customised by El Viejo, these lines are needed from the shipdata.plist in order to recreate it faithfully (Lines 123-126), eg:

Code: Select all

PaintColor1 = { type = vector; value = "0.0 0.0 0.0"; };
PaintColor2 = { type = vector; value = "0.0 0.0 0.0"; };
DecalColor =  { type = vector; value = "1.0 0.3945 0.0"; };
uDecalSelect = { type = "float"; value = 0.3; };
Sorry about all the confusion with the naming, i went back to the oxp and changed a few things i grew to dislike about the texture and made the changes into a new oxp which i called a 'less scuffed' version, and renamed the original oxp the 'scuffed' version, but because i'm lazy - i only renamed the oxp folder and not the ship data inside the oxp, so the scuffed version makes no mention of scuffed inside it's shipdata.plist, it just appears as versions of "griff_normalmapped_cobra_mkIII"

Thanks, Griff! :D

I downloaded it now, and the other one as well, just in case somebody demands it for his personality.

El Viejo PM'd me that the decals may be different in the stand-alone and in the all-in-one version. Is that right?
