Thargoid generation ships
They should exist also. Coming directly out of the time when no hyperspace was available. If someone could oxp them then they could hide some nasty surprises Alien anyone?

Interesting suggestion...

the big big problem with generation ships as anything other than curiosities, is that they were built generations ago- enough generations ago for sentient life to not have found a way of enterring witchspace. hence their weaponry would be low tech and so very very very easy pickings
if not, then why the hell are they generation ships?!?!?

Ah, but how about this for a backstory:
A lone, simple, HUGE, Thargoid Generation Hive, slipping quietly through the Vastness of Interstellar space, launched so long ago that even the Thargoids have all but forgotten its existence - but then it creeps into the very edge of detectable Galcop space and here Galcop have their opportunity to get hold of some pure, unadulterated core Thargoid DNA along with all the other plants, animals and organisms that make up a Thargoid Hive. What better opportunity could possibly present itself to work out exactly how to destroy the Thargoid Species at a biological level.
So, the Navy want to capture the Thargoid Gen. Hive and of course realising the danger they're in the Thargoids want to destroy it - at all costs.
Q-bomb proof, e-bomb proof and super, super solid raw engineering means its got to be cut apart laser blast, by laser blast.
A mighty Thargoid Armada trying to destroy their own kind while the Navy and every ship in the area they can draft in defends it with all they can throw in the way...

Unfortunately that is true. Currently it would like to add you to the Ooniverse, if you please.Screet wrote:I've heard that more than once, but the Thargoid R&D department seems busy with other priorities?!?Commander McLane wrote:Just to assure you that the next version of the Thargoid Carrier won't be a credit pinata anymore.
Behind that the Thargoid Carrier has only priority class 3, I'm afraid (2 is reserved for finally making Anarchies and Cataclysm Oolite 1.73.4-compliant).
Oh, and I almost forgot: Then there is this funny RealLife™-thingy as well.
I know that very well - even though they they decided to pay me pension due to burnout instead of trying to make me fit for work again. My dog reminds me all the time of it, sometimes even dislikes that I spend time on Oolite at allCommander McLane wrote:Oh, and I almost forgot: Then there is this funny RealLife™-thingy as well.

would the DNA be pure, or would years of inbreeding make it useless? there could be thargoids playing banjoes on the doorstep of the hive.
another thing, if they build and expand a hive like wasps do, imagine the size it would be now!
tell you what tho, gen ships - if i was on one i'd be pretty p155ed off that people had now got to hyperspace capability etc and not told me! be trawling along for decades while people are blitting about left right and centre through witchspace...

Oh...and I doubt that thargoids would send them out without defenses. Indeed, I would expect that R&D would be continued aboard these ships - and maybe they did find some new technologies which go beyond our understanding? Maybe they even do develop witchspace technology, raid a planet and leave into interstellar space again instead of trying to colonize an already colonized world. Further fun could be that the Thargs do take over a planet, thus resulting in the first thargoid colony available on current chartsKiller Wolf wrote:tell you what tho, gen ships - if i was on one i'd be pretty p155ed off that people had now got to hyperspace capability etc and not told me! be trawling along for decades while people are blitting about left right and centre through witchspace...
Another thing that might happen would be that these Thargoids become more peaceful, like the Oresratians...

Actually, it's quite often agreed that what people fear most is "change", so living your existence out inside a gen. ship is probably infinitely more acceptable to its inhabitants than the scary hyperspace capable world outside.Killer Wolf wrote:would the DNA be pure, or would years of inbreeding make it useless? there could be thargoids playing banjoes on the doorstep of the hive.

Perhaps the Hive - trapped within its own environment - has transformed into a metaphysical instance of the Thargoids originally placed inside?

I would like a 'dynamic' Thargoid Campaign. They first pop up on the edge of univers. Then the assimilate systems like hell. The Navy tries to prevent thatScreet wrote:Oh...and I doubt that thargoids would send them out without defenses. The idea of a Thargoid Gen Ship is derived from the idea that humans have them also. And the instinct of a Tharigoid is: 'destroy'. It should indeed be super big and strong. It's a new threat. I smell an OXP.
