Crosshairs in Trunk

Post by Cody »

I took v2666 out for a spin this morning. The crosshairs are ever so slightly different.
I use the Pulse Laser crosshairs: in 1.73.4, four bars, tapering to a point; in v2666 four bars, no taper.

Cosmetic, but looks much nicer in 1.73.4

The crosshair plist is identical in both, as far as I can see. I have pics if needed.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

We're upgrading Oolite's drawing routines, to allow for complex polygon shapes to be drawn, and there are still a few teething problems with that new feature. No cause for alarm! :)

I think El Viejo is reporting a different issue here: The crosshairs in trunk lack the gradient tones that they have in 1.73.4. They appear as solid lines. As far as I can see (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), the corsshairs rendering code is not using tesselation routines, but direct OpenGL calls.

Well, it's all down to this line in HeadupDisplay.m (rev.2661)

Code: Select all

- (void) renderHUD
{
	glShadeModel(GL_FLAT);
Presumably Ahruman put it there to help with testing the new icons code, to be removed once all the kinks in the new code have been ironed out.

Very diplomatically put. ;-)

Strange day for crosshairs!

Approaching this system, it looked so unusual I took some pics.
Glad I did or I might not have believed what I saw.

Both pics taken flying 1.73.4:

Five seconds later, having stopped.

The crosshairs became as earlier in trunk.
As soon as I increased speed slightly, they reverted to normal.

Thoughts!

[OT alert]

Is that moon between the coriolis station and the planet? :shock:

The tidal forces should be tearing it apart...
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I don't know exactly what this change reflects, but it has been there practically forever. Not new at all.

I'm glad it's not new. For a few minutes, late last night, I thought a crosshair had somehow crept over from trunk.
It's certainly new to me, and only happens occasionly.
