weird phenomenon
Part way through Cataclysm (excellent oxp btw) & just Galactic jumped from the Inbe system to gal5 as directed by the navy.
On arrival in the new galaxy I had a couple of DS pirates to contend with (not a problem) but on the radar screen there was a very interesting WHITE flag moving like a ship on injectors which occasionally turned yellow & almost immediately went back to white.
I couldn't persue to identify this strange occurance due to the attention the 2 interlopers insisted on... & once they were dealt with the stranger had gone out of range....
Any ideas???
MASC???
Cloak (don't think so)?

Re: weird phenomenon
MASC does change the color and does use up a little bit of energy, but reenables itself very quickly. If the ship did use MASC, you would still need a scanner filter in order to see it that way...Tivva wrote:MASC???

What you write would fit to a ship with MASC on and running out of energy, then quickly replenishing it. Maybe MASC and cloak together?

No, that was not it, because in that case the scanner blip would have been dark red.
Something changing from white to yellow and back sounds indeed weird. Please report back if you encounter it again and can take a closer look. At least there is nothing in Cataclysm that would be intended to act like this.

Anything to do with the MASC is not a bug, because it is not supportedKaks wrote:Hmm, do I sniff a MASC related 'bug'? <twitch>
And you really should do something about that twitch of yours
PS: The observation has very probably nothing to do with the MASC, if you have a MASC Filter, as Cmdr McLane has correctly said, and observe something MASC-obscured, that one looks violet-ish darkly red on the scanner, but never (to my current experience) yellow nor white and sure not both in quick succession
Cheers

I had today a tiger that was equipped with the MASC. It was shown with scanclass cargo!Lestradae wrote:PS: The observation has very probably nothing to do with the MASC, if you have a MASC Filter, as Cmdr McLane has correctly said, and observe something MASC-obscured, that one looks violet-ish darkly red on the scanner, but never (to my current experience) yellow nor white and sure not both in quick succession
If a ship is low on energy, the MASC switches off automatically. If the ship regains energy, it switches it on automatically. Thus would be expected as cargo/ship changes on the scanner.

I sometimes see objects appearing white on the radar moving away from recent kills at high velocity. It usually happens after the bounder was shot down while running injectors.
After chasing the object down, I usually find it to be an escape pod or cargo container that somehow got catapulted when it's carrying ship sucked dust.

Stop torturing Kaks already!Screet wrote:I had today a tiger that was equipped with the MASC. It was shown with scanclass cargo!
Seriously, how did you find out that it had scanclass cargo - was it white on the scanner? Did you make a dump of that ship's state?
Re: ..
I did shift-h to see in the log what info I could get...and there were those scanclass and there was the info that it was jamming (using MASC)Lestradae wrote:Seriously, how did you find out that it had scanclass cargo - was it white on the scanner? Did you make a dump of that ship's state?
And, yes, it was shown as cargo...and I failed to get it to low energy to see if it would change because I stupidly pursued on injectors and rammed the ship.
The really wierd thing is that it appeared to be spawned from a frigate that I shot down (special escape capsule?), but I simply might have not seen it before (due to it's scantype).
