Print out your Route

Post by Chrisfs »

So if you have the nav equipment that shows the quickest way to a point on the galaxy map by using ^ (shift 6) (advanced sensor array ?)
and you have a destination on the other side of the galaxy (10,000 cr!!)
you can press '*' while holding down shift 6 and it will make a screenshot of that route so you don;t have to refer back to it all the time.
Awesome!

Yeah ok.. but what I'm interested in is a way to check on your destination -before- accepting a mission? (ie, switch between mission-screen & galaxy map?)
The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Easy, you don't even need fancy equipment.

When on the carrier screen (F8-F8), select the one the passenger/cargo you are interested in and then press 'SHIFT ?'
it will take you immediately to the Galaxy Chart with the destination planet selected, so so you can see how far away it is in a graphic sense, pressing 'SHIFT ?' again brings you right back to the carrier screen, so you can either accept that contract or choose a different one.

I meant OXP Mission Screens, not the built-in cargo/passenger contracts..

Ah, well I'm not a coder, so I wouldn't know that. I'm just posting neat things as I find them.

Micha, the only way of doing that - well a slight approximation of it - is to have a mission screen with a copy of the galaxy map + the highlighted planet as a background image.

Since it's an oxp, you can code the mission to start at a specific planet, and have the green 7ly circle around that planet on the predrawn map. That'll look sufficiently 'real time'. You could also fill the commander's tanks, just in case, so that you can justify the full 7ly too...

You could even have 3 or more starting points, and choose the map background that matches the system you're in at the time...

Hope this helps.

I know, it's a moot complaint, but why does nobody ever read the documentation?
Let me quote for you, and draw your attention to the very last sentence (and note that this is the Oolite 1.65-readMe, so this is by no means a "new" functionality):

Code: Select all

8 or f8 Interactive Commodity Market display / Passengers and Contracts display
					(toggles between the two)
					On the Commodity display:
Use up and down cursor keys to select,
right to purchase commodity, left to sell commodity.
Return buys or sells as much of the selected commodity as possible.
On the Passengers and Contracts display:
Use up and down cursor keys to select, Return to agree the contract,
pressing '?' takes you to the long range chart with the destination system selected.

Because everybody knows.. "When all else fails, read the instructions!"
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hey I just found out two days ago that you can cycle missles. It didn;t use to be an issue, since I only even had missles. But then I bought a Quirium mine and all of a sudden I couldn't just fire my missle, it wanted to fire the mine

but I figured it out (I read the ref sheet again) :)
