Newbie needs a little help with planetfall oxp
I"ll start by thanking all you wonderful smart people for making the effort to improve, and make this game playable on windows. I to have played Elite (on a commadore 64) and made it to deadly before trying other versions on other computers, you people have done great work thank you again! I just downloaded the 1.73 version along with some oxp's one being the planetfall, I bought all the landing equipment and have actually taxied a fare to the planets surface and collected the fee my problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to take off. I hit the lauch key f1 or 1 i've used both and I get the tunnel effect for a bit then an explosion, cargo containers flying thur the air and please press space bar commander! What am I doing wrong? any help would be appreciated.
Firstly greetings, welcome and sorry! This seems to be something that isn't working quite right between 1.73.x and Planetfall at the moment, relating to ship orientations.
The trunk code between them is supposed to re-orient the ship on launch away from the planet, and then PF itself moves the ship a bit further away from the planet and points you out into space. Unfortunately it looks like in some cases the launch re-orientation does something odd, and you end up flying straight into the planet (hence the barrels and space-bar moment).
I've tried to adjust the code as best I can in PF to overcome this, but I'm beginning to think the problem is actually occurring before PF code gets a chance to run.
What you're doing is entirely correct in terms of gameplay, but there just seems to be something broken or not interracting together properly at the moment.
Just for completeness can you confirm you're running PF v1.21 and Oolite v1.73.4?

thanks for the quick response, and yes PlanetFall v1.21 and Oolite v1.73.4 I'm sure that I can get along with out landing on a planet but it was really cool I tried a few times and actually got a couple of different titles over the market screen. "capital city" and "liesure palace" I also read that if you had random hits oxp installed that the seedy bars would be on the planet surface is that right? how could you tell where they were? can you actually see them?

Oh, it is... the food is to die for... and as for the exotic dancers and mud-wrestling.. well...
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Yes, you will get different places to land at, depending where you land (main planet, or if you have system redux or similar installed other planets and moons) and also depending on the tech level, economy and government of the place.slomoe wrote:thanks for the quick response, and yes PlanetFall v1.21 and Oolite v1.73.4 I'm sure that I can get along with out landing on a planet but it was really cool I tried a few times and actually got a couple of different titles over the market screen. If you have Random Hits installed you can indeed visit seedy bars planet-side, and also if you use the little add-on OXPs and have hOopy casino or oohaul OXPs installed you can get them planet-side too.
Where you actually end up is random though, you can't tell before landing nor can you see them. We did consider something like that, but it cannot be coded realistically (see the main Planetfall thread in the OXP forum for more details).

Just changed the scripting a bit to try and do away with this (by rotating the temporary station - as Eric proposed many moons ago ).
From a few test-flights I didn't have any splats, download it and see if it cures what kills ya... Available via the links below.
