MediaFire file sharing, NOT

Post by Zbond-Zbond »

Good news from MediaFire
Once you're on the download page for the file that you want to download, simply click the "Click here to start download..." link to start the download.
Wishing to download the "Lave" OXP from the Wiki, I was re-directed to this website, meaning that the oxp is not on the Wiki after all.

There is no "click here to start download.." option anywhere on the page, so I cannot therefore download the oxp.

There are other 3rd party file sharing outfits, mostly having the same problem, viz. that only selected files are actually made available to anyone re-directed to the site. They all offer a "click here to download" option.. sometimes but as often as not the option is not available for some abstruse reason, and the "tell us what you think of our site" link is little more than a quagmire of irrelevant options.

Is there any other way to download OXP's e.g. via berliOS and how do I get to the berliOS site to see the AddOns listed there, please?

the unavailable file (Lave.oxp) at mediaFire is:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zahdnac0tj1

At the same time as I tried to obtain this file at mediaFire, I successfully got another oxp from Box.net -- another 3rd party file-host that only works half the time, but it the file I wanted was there today -- so whatever causes the problem for me only applies to some files, not to all files hosted there, and always to the same files.

Any comments as to how to get these files would be appreciated..

Works for me with Firefox on Windows and Linux...

What browser do you use, and do you have javascript enabled?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

And the wiki isn't really designed to host files, that's not its purpose. Plus if you do it that way you lose a lot of the control and accounting/tracking/version control facilities that the proper download places offer.

I would also wonder exactly what the wiki hosts would say about the huge bandwidth usage hike that would happen if all OXPs were actually physically hosted on the wiki proper. Mine alone would add a couple of Gb per month, and if we added them all in it would probably be several hundred Gig...

I hear & listen to all the comments regarding file hosting facilities.

Thanks for testing the links for me, so that I know that something here (not there) is most likely the prob.

I use Proxomitron and some set of filters and the noscript extension on my firefox browser.

I noticed that to access the download link in mediafire, i had to set temporarly Proxomitron on "bypass" (one of its filters must certainly block something from mediafire) and allow noscript to let javascript temporarly on mediafire.com.
Maybe there is something similar in your end preventing you to see the download link being displayed.

Meanwhile i uploaded the file you wanted " Lave1.70.zip " on sharebee that uploaded it automatically on those mirrors :

I hope it will help you.

Many thanks for the assistance, I have Lave re-installed now and am happily admiring the surface of the famous moon.

Yes, there will certainly be something preventing file access here, which I will investigate further; normally I use Safari, but sometimes try InternetExolorer, too. Although I had previously downloaded Lave OXP (and accidently deleted :!: it), this time that file was unavailable so whatever it is is intermittent - but on all other occasions it's the same files that won't upload to me.

Comments, suggestions and help with files from everyone is very much appreciated,

cheers :)
