There's a new site up to mark Elite's 25th anniversary:
elite.frontier.co.uk

On its forum there are numerous mentions of Oolite, and nobody's complaining ... this one, for instance.

Oolite is popular on the Frontier forums. It's a brilliant tribute to Elite so why shouldn't it be popular.

And whilst we're plugging the frontier forum (which I know we're not but it leads me nicely to pluggin myself :))...I've been doing a few sketches based on Frontier and Elite which I've uploaded here:
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1258

I've done three piccys so far on that thread. check it out.

@ramon: I had seen your pics in the Frontier forum before and the one with the Cobra on the beach is a smash-all-competition winner. My only (insignificant) gripe with it is that the Cobra should really be a bit bigger, but wonderful image nevertheless.

yeah, that's what everyone else says - did you notice it was the DW Cobra I created for Oolite?

I'm going to re-do that picture with a bigger Cobra, in high resolution. After I've finished the sketch I'm working on today that tis. (which I'm calling 'The planet is ravaged by frequent civil wars' - and I suppose I could just do a picture of Earth)

Sad but true.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Sad but true.

Which brings up the question of why isn't our galaxy in Oolite eh? That would be nice...

Planet Name:Earth
Tech Level: Varies by place
Government: From Democracy to Anarchy, drives you nuts.
Humanoids, mostly harmless, some may attack for no reason at all.
Population:Uncertain
Gross Productivity: Estimated 9 billion tonnes of speech per month.

Planet Earth is one planet which will drive you all nuts. The local military will not hesitate to fire upon anything that doesn't look like a humanoid. Be cautious when attempting to land, the surface is highly polluted.

Earth, the Federation and the Duval Empire are in the Oolite universe – they're just not in the game. :) Currently they're fighting among themselves and exterminating indigenous lifeforms some 50 light-years or so from Lave ...

@ Commander Learner: For a deeper insight into how Earth, Elite, Oolite, and Frontier are connected have a look into Selezen's immensely informative website: http://elite.hughesd.co.uk/

My take would be:

Planet Name:Earth
Tech Level: 4*
Government: Multi-Government
Humanoids, mostly harmless (to rest of Ooniverse)
Population:6.8 Billion
Gross Productivity: c. US$70 Trillion**

* We have nuclear weapons and limited inter planetary flight but nothing else of any real importance

** I don't know what the conversion rate between US$ and Cr is.

Just had a little play - using Gold as the bench mark conversion rate.

Therefore, based on the following:

Gold = US$32000/Kg
Gold = 38Cr/Kg (ave.)
Ratio = 0.0011875

Earth GDP = US$70 Trillion
Earth GDP = 83,125,000,000Cr (83.125B Cr)

So in the Grand scheme of things Earth would be a very rich if technically inept member of Galcop...

So, if c. US$1000 = 1 Cr then a shiny new Jameson has a ship worth several Million Dollars and about US$100,000 in the bank.

However, this does mean that generic "food" is US$2,400 a TC (I agree we don't actually know what the ratio between a real ton(ne) and a TC is - but a kg is a kg!)

That's probably not too far off of the mark, considering transportation & logistical costs combined with all other costs & markups.

Also consider that textiles, Liquors & Wines and Luxuries cost even more. 8)

Mind you, that does make the meal/drink/entertainment at Seedy Space Bars incredibly expensive! :shock:
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
