do changing the values there change your ship? or the ships you can buy in the spacestation

i must admit, i did have a fiddle about- but it didnt seem to make any difference at all to the default cobra!

Hey George C. Phonebook,

kindly have a look here:

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Shipdata.plist

... and here:

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Shipyard.plist

That should answer all questions you could have!

Cheers

The above is actually how fast the energy banks recharge ;) It has nothing to do with the number of energy banks (as you correctly surmised, that's max_energy divided by 64). See this post for more details.

If you're messing around with the trunk core plists (not a recommended thing to do) then you'll just change NPC and shipyard ships. If you want to change such things on your actual player ship (without having to go out and buy a new one), then you'll need to edit the similar keys within your save game file.

After making a back-up copy in case things go wrong, look for the max_energy key within your save game file, edit the value there to your 128 (or whatever) and then reload the file. You should see your energy banks changed then.

Did you hold the shift key down while Oolite booted up - otherwise it uses it cache and doesn't notice your fiddling (click icon - hold down shift key until spinning cobra appears - log will state that cache has been flushed)

I've experimented a bit with shipdata.plist and never "shift" start-upped.
The (very few) changes I've ever made appear immediately in my ship - if I'm flying one - and also in any saved ships of that type.

some of the plists are read each time without being cached but I never remember which ones so shift on start always gets round the issue, just in case...

It might vary between operating systems as to whether it notices date changes and therefore reloads... I say this because I have had weird things happen if you have symlink the files, so now I just symlink the top level directory itself and rely on overrides to make any local changes.
