Error Materials Replacing on Global Scale

I created an alternative Worm, with Pirate AI, and made my own texture for it...

I let it use the original worm_redux.dat model file
and decided to replace it by using materials

like this

now much to my surprise Stations are beginning to launch worm shuttles with my new texture..

Is materials not supposed to work only on that very ship key, since it looks like by altering it in one place in the shipdata.plist file, will alter it globally

is this a bug ?.. Or should I use like_ship instead and see what happens :-S


of course I think i could easily bypass it by saving a copy of the worm model and changing the texture pointed to in that file..

Yesterday I had the same experience. In ups I defined cargo canisters. For a special mission I used the same canisters but now with a new texture with the word SPECIAL on it. The new texture was defined in materials in the same way as your example above.

Yesterday I did that mission and scooped those special cannisters. To my surprise some had other content than I defined for it. The next few I examined more closely before scooping. Here I noticed they had not the roles, nor the name of my special barrel. For some reason also normal barrels got the new texture.

I found no referenced in the logfile of wrong textures, but this must be the same as you had.
