game crashing for no reason

Post by chrisd1777 »

I am new to the oolite world and having only just downloaded the game was very excited about playing it today but things do not appear to be correct. Everytime I start the game it loads correctly and I happily leave the space station but after a short period the game crashes. This crash is also implemented but firing the laser.
I am running a 32bit vista pc with 1gB ram. Can any one help.

Somewhere in your Oolite folder there is a sub-folder "oolite.app" with another subfolder termed "Logs".

Have a look into the file "Latest.log" and please post its complete contents here.

Some knowledgable people will then be able to tell you one or the other thing about what might be happening and what you can do about it.

Cheers & welcome to Oolite :)

In Vista - where did you install the game?

I hear that allowing it to install in the default location (under Program Files) can cause issues.

It seems that most Vista Oolite players install it directly under the C: drive i.e. create a folder C:\Oolite\ and install there.

This seems to avoid a lot of Vista related crashes - of course this might not be the particular reason for your crash but it may help you find the necessary logs!

Which Oolite version are you using - V1.65, or 1.72.2, or something else?
I cannot find any subfold
Have a look at your installation folder (there has to be one, else you wouldn't have played a bit already  )

Somewhere in there will be a "Logs" folder.

If not, alternately have a look for a file called stderr.txt, and copy/paste that one's contents in here!

Good luck

Since you're using Vista, it may be that the log files are located under C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Oolite\oolite.app\Logs.

In fact, it would be worth your while to read this http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Runnin ... a_users.21 before uninstalling the game and reinstalling as per the instructions given at that link. It will save you a lot of problems in the future..

Despite the names, the 1.72.2 'testing' release is actually more stable than the 1.65 'stable' release.. I'd strongly suggest you download and install the 1.72.2 version from http://developer.berlios.de/project/sho ... up_id=3577 and see if it runs correctly..
