I'm 95% positive it's my OS problem. Not the game. It works flawlessly on my N10Jh and work computer, both of which don't have restrictions (term?) in cmd.exe

I'm not sure what DS's trunk build is, how I go about it or where I download 1.73 version from... :?

Hi asterisk.. I did a google on your cmd.exe "Access is Denied" problem, and guess what? I think I've found your problem! From the looks of things, it should allow 1.72 to launch once fixed.

You'll never guess.. it's your Comodo firewall... protecting you from yourself, I guess.

Go here: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5392674 and have a read through the comments, to where the guy solves it at the bottom..

It's worth reading it, even though I'll give you the short solution here..
I went to the "Defense+ Tasks/Advanced/Computer Security Policy" list and changed C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cmd.exe's "Application System Activity Control" (via Edit or double-click) to "Use a Predefined Policy" of "Windows System Application".
Since I guess by now you've already downloaded my trunk build, hopefully now you can enjoy both versions.

(Note to all here.. now we have something else we need to ask Windows users if they have problems.. Are you using Comodo Firewall?)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Ok.. that may be a bit drastic. Comodo is quite a good product actually, and far better than the built-in Windows firewall. (and yep, you really DO need a firewall) Did you try the fix I outlined above before you dumped it?

No, I haven't. COMODO is a good firewall, but it's "too good" for me. Too much "blocking" of "too much" stuff. And I'm not spending days learning all its perks and setting it up. I don't have any critical info on my PC.

Fair enough.. you might look at ZoneAlarm then... simpler to use, but just as effective.. anyhoo.. up to you.. 8)
