Gimp 2 - no rectangle or circle draw options???

I know this isnt really an Oolite question but im sure there are people here who know tha answer to this question - how do you draw rectangles or circles in Gimp2? there dont seem to be the basic tools that all other painting applications have?

Maybe there's a better way to do it ... and I've German menues, so the names can vary:

mark a circle or a rectangle with the selection tool
menu edit -> border
set border width, [ok]
fill circle with desired color or pattern

Afaik, it's done the same way in Photoshop.

If you want just the outline of the shape, do as hacht says and mark a circle or a rectangle with the selection tool, then from the edit menu choose 'stroke selection...'.

I found gimp to be unuser friendly so i switched to
http://paint.net/ is a very nice program to use.
Unfortunately its windows only

yes, i have paint.net installed as well and also find it easier to use - i loaded gimp 2.0 when i thought lighting effects depended on these packages and didnt realise they were scripted - if theres no obvious advantage to gimp then using paint.net is certainly easier and there are loads of plugins available

The I refers to me as a user, O.k I found it unorthodox then. I mostly use linux just have windows on my netbook as i use it for gaming.

I don't know how completed this is but there is a version of paint.net for linux
