Sounds like there might be a 'gauntlet' or 2 in it then...ClymAngus wrote:ok about a quarter of the way through systeming up g3 and I do have to say it's a right hell hole. It's going to be tricky finding any safe routes through it.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I can't wait to see the new map.

If you think G3 is bad, then you've seen nothing yet. G5 is IMHO an Anarchist's Paradise.
Running Oolite buttery smooth & rock stable w/ tons of eyecandy oxps on:

Well so far I don't see much point going anywere near the left had side of gal3.
A commander could happily pootle around the bottom right without too much trouble but getting across the map, seems to be a bit of a mine field.
Next couple of days for basic gal3 completion, I recon.
Galaxy3 is done and ready for error checking, there are no Notable Organisations of Galaxy Three (as of yet). Remember to check on page 1 for all your unused ideas to date before you go spending brain time thinking up new stuff!!!
Other than that. Go for your lives. Time to start the routes on gal4 (ho hum)

Meh, there is a good cluster in the centre, top right and bottom right look good links to it. I was setting the gal centre in the central "spine" around these good systems. Not a lot on the left and the bottom looks like a death trap so maybe 2-3 legit trade routes on this one and a number of less lethal drug smuggling runs through the dictatorships?Nemoricus wrote:Right hell hole isn't a bad description. Nice work, by the way.
So, what are the criteria for a good trade route?
This is a hard place to find routes in. It's more like trading areas than routes. That region in the upper right including Edxeri doesn't look too bad.
Starting to the left of GalCen3- Alace-Maonle-Bixein-Esmaonbe-Lezaer-Xeverive-Riquri-Rigebi-Bireer-Soatqube-Erbidi-Bezaed looks pretty good. Thoughts?
Starting near the 130 mark at the top of G3- Betia-Atia-Cedile-Vemaed/Raerqu-Leorendi-Inbiti-Releorar-Ararin-Orzaedve. What about this one?

Tell me about it I've been staring at this S.O.A.B. for 2 hours now and I'm starting to go route blind.
You mean upper left, and yes there's a horse shoe route of;Nemoricus wrote:That region in the upper right including Edxeri doesn't look too bad.
USZALE-EDCERE-TEEDUS-EDXERI-LAMARE-INLAIN
Couple of things: Instead of Alace-Maonle-Bixein why not go Bixein-Ededxbe-Tebe-Raerqu then link up with your second route at Leorendi.Nemoricus wrote:Starting to the left of GalCen3- Alace-Maonle-Bixein-Esmaonbe-Lezaer-Xeverive-Riquri-Rigebi-Bireer-Soatqube-Erbidi-Bezaed looks pretty good. The other end you could probably bypass Erbidi and go for Ceisge. Annnd extending from Bezaed with Xeonle-Ceteri.
This routes cool, if a little more risky (It's name should probably reflect that)Nemoricus wrote:Starting near the 130 mark at the top of G3- Betia-Atia-Cedile-Vemaed/Raerqu-Leorendi-Inbiti-Releorar-Ararin-Orzaedve. What about this one?
I've also slapped in some other fractured routes that are profitable but don't link up.
Take a look

Thanks for using my suggestions, ClymAgnus.
There are a few places in your routes where you're going from agricultural worlds to agricultural worlds. While it is possible to make a minor profit if they are different levels of wealth, it's not particularly efficient.
However, given how nasty this galaxy is in general, it's probably unavoidable.

True but looking at it this way, a commander could "stock up" on 2 worlds worth of agri goods then hit the Ind worlds. Also there is the profit vs pirate issue, a good profit is pointless if your ship is blown out from under you.
I see routes as evolving, with 3 major factors defining the end routes.
Profitability; This dictates the most profitable route will always be the preferred one no matter what the political system.
Piracy: This prunes away the traders that choose high profit over safety.
Monopolies: If there is a political bias in an area then that too might influence the trade route. Standardizing of documentation for instance, the streamlining of search procedures. These small things may kink a route or send it through one bottle neck rather than another, but won't be strong enough to send it through dangerous systems or massively unprofitable ones.
Right Rough map (not the vector one a raster jpg that people can download scribble on and upload (110K) Has been updated with some possible areas of interest. If everyone is happy for these routes then we also need some names for the ones that don't go north south (eg the small disjointed ones)
so yeah there's a lot so, stake your claim and pick a name.
