Hmmm. Maybe a script that overrides ship movement speed and direction and then destroys it after a short time?

However, such a thing could not exist in any solar system, so it would have to be restricted to misjumps...

I guess you could paint a planet black and give it no atmosphere, in interstellar space...

have a world script check certain things, every now and then..

a timer on 30 seconds, getting a list of ships within the killzone, then

Code: Select all

ship.explode
for each object/ship in the list...

That includes the player

I was just thinking that it could be really nice eye candy :P

There are some star systems in real life that are black-hole star binaries. I wonder how far Oolite's sun graphics will have to go before we could depict something like this:

they could be placed near suns... it would be just like the Tianve pulsar :D

Now THAT would be a nice thing to have in the game!
But not so much if it were right outside the station you happened to be in.

Not quite. Any star that is big enough star can become a black hole. In theory, black hole, instead of a star would hold same planet orbits as the star itself (no change in mass = no change in the gravity @ certain distance)

But in reality, it will first become giant meganova and destroy everything in it's solar system.. including the planets.

I think he's talking about game engine limitations, not physics in RL... those are already out the window in Oolite.

But oolite's sun graphics will need to come a LONG way before that happens.

I'd love to see a version of oolite with crysis like graphics though.. it'd be impressive.
I shot him back first. That is to say, I read his mind and fired before he would have fired on me. No, sir, he wasn't a fugitive.

Since there isn't really gravity, I agree, a black hole is a bit of leap!

Man, seriously, you have GOT to download trunk before you post any more. :-)
- The sun has a corona.
- Everything's better with shaders.

Obviously you've never seen crysis screenshots. It's the game that looks more realistic than real life. Besides, will trunk melt my ibook?

Quite a lot of effort goes into ensuring that newer releases do not have unrealistic machine requirements.

If 'trunk' doesnt perform on your machine then it should be possible to change the configuration, disable shaders perhaps so that it will run. I would still advise you to wait until the next release though.

That is way too hot for idle temp. You should do something about the cooling.

Naw thats how the older apple laptops run. It idles maybe at 65 then peaks only at 70. I'm just glad it's polycarbonate, not alu, so the heat has a chance to disspate before it gets to my legs or desk.
