Where are the expansion packs and how do I install them?

Seems it is not detecting Lave.oxp.., it looks like it is searching for OXPs in "/home/john/.Oolite/AddOns", while you are running it from location

("/home/john/Oolite-dev/1.71-maintenance/oolite.app/Oolite.X") where X is the program extention thingi for Ubuntu,---

Anyway here is my Paths..

Code: Select all

2008-06-02 13:05:34.949 oolite.exe[2420] [searchPaths.dumpAll]: ---> OXP search paths:
(oolite.app/Resources, AddOns, AddOns/Rock_Hermit_Locator1.2.1.oxp)
It lists the OXP´s found..

"AddOns/Rock_hermit_Locator.1.2.1.oxp"

Note that Rock_hermit_locator.1.2.1.oxp is a dictionary... put in the directionary

C:/Program Files/Oolite1.7.1.2/Addons/

on my system...

Why on your system it is searching in ""/home/john/.Oolite/AddOns"

and not

home/john/Oolite-dev/1.71-maintenance/AddOns/

beats me.. might be because you got two installations of Oolite... which i also do, but again i´m on Vista.

What i would do is to uninstall both local version, after backing up both things, then reinstall 1.71.2, put lave OXP under

home/john/Oolite-dev/1.71-maintenance/AddOns/

and run it..

Hopes it helps

The first message means that it’s not finding the AddOns directory next to your app. This appears to be a bug in the game. (Devs and source tinkerers: does calculating app_addon_path the Mac way in +[ResourceManager roothPaths] work under Windows and/or Linux?)

Have used the rsync command to update my copy of V1.71.2. (as suggested by Winston)

I too had and still have the "where to put the OXPs" issue.

However, as you can see from this snippet from the stderr file lave.oxp is picked up if I put it in the Resources directory!

Lots of lovely ships I remember from my 1.65 days - but it all looks much prettier now...

So, now to try YAH, Diso, Tianve, TOGY, etc, etc...

FPS currently flickering between 110 and 48 wonder what I'll get it down to...

I’m not at all surprised, but the point of the AddOns directories is that you’re not supposed to have to do that, because it’s a really bad idea. :-)

Ah.

So what do I do? Continue as I am? move stuff to the ".Oolite/AddOns" directory? Remove it all and wait for somebody to tell me why some of us have this issue while others don't...

{Answers on a postcard...}

Affirmative for Windows. By using the Mac code to set up paths, I am getting this in the log:

Code: Select all

2008-06-04 11:40:57.732 oolite.exe[2352] [searchPaths.dumpAll]: ---> OXP search paths:
(oolite.app/Resources, "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/Anarchies1.0.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/behemoth.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/buoyRepair1.00.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/Debug.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/dodo_stations.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/dreams01beta.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/dwcobra3.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/Galactic_Navy.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/griff_coriolis.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/griff_shady_station.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/Llama.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/missiles.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/OoliteItaliano_v1.2.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/racers.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/scripttest.oxp", "D:\\oosvn/trunk/AddOns/System_Redux.oxp")
After very brief testing, game appears to run perfectly OK. Will test some more when I get home.

I've been having a similar problem to the one described in this thread. I've put the Your Ad Here .oxp folders in the AddOns folder of Oolite, but nothing shows up in game. I'm running the 1.72.2, first time install of Oolite.

However, after looking through the replies here and the wiki, I still can't find a solution to my problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome nemoricus!

Firstly, what OS? (XP/Vista/Mac/Linux)

Vista does have some issues I think if you install it in the default directory (virtual storage or some such).

Did you hold down the shift key on loading, just in case the cache needed flushing (unlikely as this is a first time install)

Are you using the latest V4 of the new YAH - previous versions did have some problems in some OSs (Mac I think in particular)

I hope this helps.

Oops, I'm running Windows XP. My bad.

I am using v4. However, when exactly are you supposed to hold down shift?

In theory this should be from when you click the icon to start running the game until the spinning Cobra appears - but if this is a first time install then it should need to happen.

The next question anybody will ask is can we see the contents of your stderr.txt file - post it in this thread between [ code] [/ code] (without spaces) for neatness.

Not sure where stderr appears in XP version - somewhere down from top level Oolite dir (could just search for stderr if its not immediately obvious)

This way we should see if it's find the oxp and if it is, if the oxp is causing any errors which would prevent it from working.

Thanks for the quick replies, and the welcome, too!

Code: Select all

2009-05-18 17:34:33.187 oolite[3308] File NSUserDefaults.m: 626. In [NSUserDefaults +standardUserDefaults] Improper installation: No language locale found
Here's the contents of the stderr document.

Holding down shift does not seem to have worked.

Hmmm, it's much shorter than I expected!

Somebody with more XP experience is going to have to help out at this point!!

Come on DH, we've upgraded remember ;)

The file you actually want is Latest.log, which should be under the oolite.app folder within the logs subfolder. The information used to go in stderr.txt, but it got moved to the new logs in 1.72.2 (the posted error in stderr.txt is normal).

And as long as you hold down shift until the actual game window appears, that is sufficient normally.
