DeepSpace Ships OXP - Official Thread

Post by DeepSpace »

Deepspace Ships OXP is done and ready for download. Click on the banner below to visit the Deepspace OXP Webpage. You can also download my Retro HUD (a recreation and nod to the classic Elite HUD) as well as my original Deepspace HUD (shown in the image below).

Zip file for Deepspace Ships OXP is 21mb.

Note that this OXP will override existing default Oolite ships and probably any other OXP that does a similar thing. Thankfully ADCK 8) has made a set of additional files that fixes this and you can download and replace the said files in the Deepspace Ships OXP. Find these files here....
Non-Override Ships Files - 9kb size.

Enjoy them guys.... :D

8) They're just using the original ship models right? If so I'm blown away - the extra value added from your textures is amazing - anybody without shader support will be as happy as a pig rolling in mud to have these babies whizzing across their screens.

At least now I know where I'm aiming to be with my own texturing in say, 20-30 yrs

That's right DaddyHoggy. These are just replacements for the default sets of ships in Oolite. If I was to go down the normal mapping and specular mapping etc route I'd probably build new ships all together. :)
These ships have a more 'manga' feel about them, less realistic look than say the great work done by Griff and others.
It is planned as a complete replacement for ALL the objects/ships in default Oolite. All the way through even to the Escape pods, missiles and boulders. Even the alternate ship types like Pirate versions of some of the ships :) A complete and consistent look for everything.

Fingers crossed.

Great work with the textures! Looking very much forward to the final shipset. I like this style very much.

Those look pretty cool. I already want to see 'em in-game. Too bad won't have an opportunity to look close on those pirates - they never get that close

Looking very good. And keeping the original designs, great for people like me who love the nastalgia of the game.
Can`t wait to see them in game.

Just change your fighting style some... I have plenty of near-misses (and the occasional collision) when I'm dogfighting pirates. If you're quick on the pause button, you can get a good look at 'em.

The ships you've done so far look absolutely awesome, but there is one minor nitpick - 'GALCOPS' should be 'GALCOP', as it's an abbreviation of the name of the galactic government, rather than the name of the police force.

How are these ships coming on deepspace? As a user of your HUD I'm itching to see these babies!

Slowly at the moment. Its a bit frustrating as there's not many left, but RL work has ramped up and I've not got that much spare time at the mo. :(
But when I do get the chance it'll be done fairly quickly. :)

Hi,
just wanted to note that I also eagerly await the release of your texture packs!
I already use your HUD and Griff's ships, but they're not colorful enough imho (why should I pay for new paint in maintenance overhaul when my ship color is "metal"?). Soo, are there maybe pre-releases yet? Since your plans to replace everything sound pretty big... :)

Hi Corny.

Is this not colourful enough?

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
