Problem landing on Planet

Post by boonier »

hello - my first post i think...

Firstly, big ups to everyone who made this game possible. Very well done :)

I've been playing this game on/off for maybe 3 years now. Recently learned about the Planetfall oxp. For the life of me i can't figure out how to land on a planet. I have dowloaded latest oxp (and have latest test version of oolite). I have been to the higher tech systems to try to buy the 'planetary landing modifications' but no one seems to be selling them.

What exactly do I need to buy? Has using an older saved game somehow corrupted preferences?

many thanks

Hi boonier,

Welcome to the boards!

My first suspicion would be that you are using an older Oolite version than 1.72.2? Could this be the case?

The older versions can't even read the javascript parts of planetfall!

Cheers,

The name is "Planetary Landing Capability", it should be available from tech level 9 upwards and you have to have a docking computer and heat shield installed to get it offered!

Try the OXP's readme file ;)
In the readme for Planetfall, I wrote:
Version 1.1 Update

* Fixed the bug that lets you land without the modifications (thanks PAGroove!).
* Buying the landing capability modifications now requires docking computers and extra heat shielding to already be installed.
* Landing comms message now doesn't show up if you're not equipped for landing, and is delayed 15s after launch rather than appearing immediately when the station is in the planets vicinity.
It also says so in the thread here on the OXP section (and it also now says it in the wiki, as it didn't before :P )

G'day Boonier,
First, Welcome to the Ooniverse. Suspend all normal ideas of Universe. Coz nothing here is as it is there. Tis fun here. So very welcome.

I only just got planet landing capabilities today. So first thing I did.
Try it out.

some hours later...

No crashies.

Just building up landing speed. It says that in the 'read me' txt.

Ye right were blokes we don't read till it's dead!! Oops.

So, Anyway.
What you have to do is ballance the cost of repairing your 'susspension' and skid pads against the profit available. Landing a space craft on hard ground is like running a bulldozzer into a cliff. Takes a lot out of it.

There are some great deals though;

Got 55 ton of food for 0 c and took it straight to the wee shoppe at 'W' point for 102 c.

Ye I've seen 0c for stuff they have on the planet and charge heaps for in space. Only a couple of times in a lot of landings though. And they skid pads are expensive.

Happy Flying
Any probs. Just log in and ask, there are heaps of bods here that will happily try to help out.
