That's due to not understanding how Vista is actually managing memory. There was a philosophy change in how does it's management, and it's actually much more efficient, especially if you tend to run multiple applications simultaneously. If you want a white paper on it, I'll find it...
My understanding, and I have to confess it's been a few years since I read about it, is that Vista keeps more file handles loaded (rather than paging them out) until the memory space is actually required by an application. This way, it's faster to load non-focused applications / files. Once the space is required, it's released for usage. Again, it's been about 3 years since I read up on it, so take my explanation with a BIG grain of salt... Then add some more because I'm a Network guy, NOT a programmer.
i tried the interstella explorer once and crashed into a planet after switching on the j-drive.... its a bit too fast that thing!!!!! reminds me of the quote from HHGTTG "looks like a fish moves like a fish steers like a cow!!!!"
Maybe get Lestradae to sell you one of his player planets?
