I used to run Oolite 1.65 on my old PC and it took me back a bit... I'm not old enough to have played the BBC Micro Elite but my dad hooked my brother and I when we were young on the Amiga version (Elite deluxe I think?) and on Frontier
Anyway, I'm supposed to be revising for my first year exams at University but a bit of procrastination lead me back to Oolite.
The problem is I can't seem to download the 1.72.2 version (or the 1.65 for that matter) from the berliOS website linked from the test release thread. The thread says it was available "from GUPRO" but the following hyperlink takes me to the berliOS link. The download is slow, around 7 kb/s despite me having a broadband connection, and stops all together after around 15 mins. Just wondered if anyone might be able to help; I assume the problem is to do with the server at berliOS
Now get back to your revision!! (I need talk - I read "The Lord of the Rings" rather than face up to Quantum Mechanics and Electromagnatism revision in my 2nd Year...)
Hehe, no my I've never been called Marvin and what's also funny is that I registered those as two of modules for next year! (I'm studying Astrophysics, sounds like your degree was/is something close to that...Lord of the Rings provided my A level procrastination )

I get that certificate problem too, I think I always have. What OS and browser are you using?
But (at least on IE6 and WinXP that I'm stuck with here at work) you should just be able to click yes and carry on into Berlios. After that it's just pointing and clicking on downwards.

They do seem to be a bit slow in starting off, but after that they're fine for me (but then I'm on an office link and can download the Windows version in about 5 seconds). Try right-clicking on one of the relevant links above and save-as?

Trying one of those links you put now and still going slow but I got 25% so far which is much more than before.... weird. Guess I'll try IE if this fails (duh for not trying that already).
Anyways, fingers crossed on this download. It's just odd that it's taking forever

Apologies I should have warned you about the potential faff (I too use FF) - you just make an exception (follow the little blue hyperlink at the bottom of the warning) and accept the certificate as it and it all works fine after that.
With regards to my Bachelors degree I did a Joint Honours in Physics and Computer Sciences (2/3rds of each of the straight single subject degree courses - very little time for the pub during that course.)

Apologies I should have warned you about the potential faff (I too use FF) - you just make an exception (follow the little blue hyperlink at the bottom of the warning) and accept the certificate as it and it all works fine after that.
If you later want to remove the exception (and I've needed to do so once due to a new certificate), you can do so via the prefs/options window → ‘Advanced’ section → ‘Encryption’ tab → ‘View Certificates’ button, ‘Servers’ tab.
Iceweasel Firefox is doing the right thing here: FhG FOKUS is acting as its own certificate authority, and the browser doesn't have the CA certificate.
Are you using any sort of download accelerator? If so, suspend it...
If you're using FF, try installing DownThemAll. It will let you pause and resume downloads. I've run into a few issues where a download stalls out. I just pause it, wait a second or so, then unpause... Suprise - It finishes downloading just fine...
Yup, still no luck. Got to 69% and stopped. Boo hoo!
Oh, well, since you said that you use Vista, maybe the delay has it's good thing, in case you didn't read already: Please install oolite to C:\games\oolite or such and not to program files (which is the default) if you use Vista as that stupid OS comes with virtual folders and thus creates a real problem. Editing files within the Oolite directory (if it's in program files) results in copies of these files being created in the virtual store and leaving the original untouched. That gets really problematic if you ever update any oxp's or want to play with different users!

My brother downloaded it and sent it to me at last, the taste of delicious Oolite... the perfect accompaniment to revision... ahem thanks for all of the help folks, I'm just gutted that I didn't think of getting someone else to download it for me sooner. Not that that fixes any long term problems; I suspect my dad has changed some network settings at home since I was last here at Christmas, but I'm moving back to University (sadly not Ooniversity) on saturday so that won't be a problem for much longer.

when you do that, i recommend making that exception temporary. all you have to do is check (or uncheck?) a checkbox.
