Does Anyone Know What This Is?

Post by Randy »

Hi all,

I found this image by accident and it's probably fake but I like the idea.

It may be fake, but I suspect not.. it would not be that hard to cannibalise a keyboard to make a console like that.. I wish the focus was better, I'd like to be able to read the small print under the "Circle Cargo" control. I'm guessing it allows you to cycle through the cargo for jettisoning purposes.

Going by the buttons which are missing, it would seem designed for use in combination with a joystick. So if it's fake, it's a very well thought out fake. I want one!

And then, there's THIS shot... Click on it for the full high-res version. Talk about game-addiction! Somebody has gone to some SERIOUS effort over this.. Two joysticks, all the rest of the keyboard controls, well thought out layout, too... they must surely be on this forum, so come on, 'fess up! Who owns this setup?

Image

Edit to add:
Looking closely at the full setup, I'm inclined to suspect the "Circle Cargo" control is more likely designed to use with the Trading screen...

2nd Edit to add:
The custom console pics are in the same collection that Presti70 uses to host his excellent Trading Maps.. so I'm guessing Presti is the owner of this awesome control system.. I wonder if he takes orders :?:

WOW...I want one, too! 8)

However, the person probably didn't show it yet because he's still busy breeding a trumble, as that's missing in the setup shown! ;)

It's a Steel battalion controller.

The outputs have been remapped for oolite and they did a paint job on the lettering too. It's a good job. I think you can still get hold of these on ebay.

Its not a fake.

Recognised the SB controller - nicely modded - interesting spelling of the "CLOACKING DEVICE"

Okay, I've seriously got to look into this. This fits into my grand scheme of things.

Edit: This thing has a gear shift. I wonder what happens if you go into fifth gear. Will the GalCops pull you over for exceeding the relativistic speed limit?

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"Um, a broken tail light?"

"No, breaking the speed of light. You went backwards in time and did the whole Grandfather Paradox bit. In short, you've made a mess of the continuum. Do you know how many credits it costs to keep a well ordered continuity? I'll let you off this time since you made sure that my ex was never born so I got to keep the condo on Riedquat."

"If your ex was never born, then how did you ever get married to her in the first place?"

"I told you -- the continuum is a mess! Now take a hike while I take two Nirpsa's for the headache!"

Sorry, my overactive imagination broke the relativistic speed limit also.
