Maps

Post by ClymAngus »

OK I'm having a bit of difficulty regarding the maps:

If I look in the Oolite wiki it gives x and y coordinates for each of the systems.
They both tend to run from 0 to 260 or so.

This creates a 1:1 aspect ratio (basically square)

BUT

If we look on any actual map then the aspect ratio is more like 2:1 (or letterbox). This makes it very difficult to accurately pdf the maps as there is no standard light year measurement possible and all the 7ly radius circles become elipses!

I was considering just doubling the length measurement on all the oolite coordinates and going from there but I'm not sure how badly this is going to screw with the 7ly circles. Any ideas?

OK running a number of screen grabs the game appears to double the length (or halve the hight) when extraplating out the raw x y co-ordinates.
so that gives me a golden ball park figure of;

260X520
130X260

and I'll have to double/half the length/hight accordingly. SWEET!
