Q-Bomb is new to me for such a ship, really...and I've shot down several of them already! Always soooo much nice luxury food for free to sellRebecca wrote:i had a fight with a fugitive shreddies box today.... tried to qbomb me too but im wise to that now...

However, with the trunk version, I scooped all the shreddies and my cargo hold was empty *GRRR*
It's typically Purple Haze and Shield Tails that q-bomb me. When I'm using my side lasers to get them, I usually end up dead, just to be brought to some strange graveyard where youngsters are trying to Q-Bomb me a second time *GRRR*

The only difference it makes is you don't get the 5-second timer delay that you do with a q-bomb to spot it and high-tail it out of Dodge. All you get it is their death message as a warning.
Makes them actually a bit more deadly than a Q-bomb, and rather more annoying.

I could change that ship behaviour for OSE.
Could either take this explosion out at all or time-delay it a few seconds or even issue a warning "Reactor breach imminent - mayday, mayday!" -> *boom*
What say you people, should I?

At least some warning would be nice...if possible, maybe with a little chance (random time amount between 0 and three seconds to blow up?).Cmdr James wrote:Or leave it as it is, I think its fun to have some ships do different things.
As for the Breakfast Cereals: Did anyone notice that the texture of the shreddies box is mirrored, thus showing from the wrong side? I only was able to notice that when I got rid of my ATI equipment as that never did show any texture at all for that ship...

For me it would be better to have it happen only on a random chance. Having it every time is rather irritating, especially when it isn't the player that kills the ship but an NPC and so you've no control over it triggering off.

The Purple Haze is in RS, so it kinda comes as part of the package. On my system it's already been altered as it's too irritating for me currently (especially as I seemed to have a phase of them being NPC-killed around stations when I launched, and so I flew out into a Q-sphere too often.
But not everyone has the desire and/or skill to go into an OXP and start altering things.
I agree it's nice to have things unexpected, but after the first time the PH isn't unexpected, it's a pain.

Thats what you get when you install a huge OXP with everything in :p
If you dont want everything, then dont install RS. I dont see this as any different to people asking for StarWars ships etc. to be removed from RS.
It is true that not everyone has the skills to modify OXPs, but they are making a choice to use RS, and have to accept what that entails. They dont have to do that. If it was a core oolite feature, then I think it would be fair game for complaint, but its not. Its an interesting ship, that L has chosen to include in RS because he feels that it adds something.
I dont have RS installed, but do have the OXP. I hardly ever see them, so my guess is that RS has played about with roles or probabilities making shildtails and purle haze more common. Perhaps changing their frequency would be better -- as I think we agree, there is little point in having a "surprise" action on a ship if every other pirate is the same.

I share my opinion with Cmdr James that it is a bug to deploy a q-bomb after death. It makes no sense. It should be a defence weapon to save ones live.
In my opinion the death actions that initiate the blast should be removed and the key "has_energy_bomb" should be added:
Code: Select all
<key>has_energy_bomb</key>
<true/>
has_energy_bomb is a bit of an confusing name, but when you look in shipdata, energy_bomb is one of the roles of the q-mine.
On a related subject: can anybody explain the why both ships are called shield-tail? I looked into the shipdata but none of them has a shield in its tail. I would expect it as also the cobra-rapier from wolfswood_variants.oxp really used a shielded tail. It is a special subentity at its tail that protects its back.
