Ship appearances question
Hi there. I've seen tons of different zip files for some ships here, or some ships there. What I'm wondering is, is there a simple 1 download pack that retextures/reskins all the ships?
If not, what exactly must I download to do that with the default ones?

No ... that would make it too easy.bacontube wrote:Hi there. I've seen tons of different zip files for some ships here, or some ships there. What I'm wondering is, is there a simple 1 download pack that retextures/reskins all the ships?
Simon B is in the process of making a "Neolite" pack to remodel the original ships (and some other "canonical" ones, too, like the Iguana). It's a work in progress – you can review it all so far here.

Well, you can give Realistic Shipyards a try or ask it's creator for a link to the WIP version of it's successor OSE. That one bundles an amazing amount of those shippacks and also comes with retextured versions of the original ones.bacontube wrote:Hi there. For a more simple but very nice addition, the already suggested neolite oxp from Simon_B is very good! I like those models far more than the originals, and it's also a little bit more difficult to fight them

Ah, kk. I'l have to check them out then thank you. Not sure I like the higher difficulty thing though, space fights are already difficult enough for me as is. -edit- The link on the wiki to Sung's links to his webpage, but I cannot seem to find the textures there.Screet wrote:Well, you can give Realistic Shipyards a try or ask it's creator for a link to the WIP version of it's successor OSE. If you go for RS/OSE, you'll have the ships with sungs textures in anywaybacontube wrote:Ah, kk. I'l have to check them out then thank you. Concerning Simons ships: Those are typically more flat, that's why it's a little bit more difficult to hit them from any side except top and bottom. However, you should really see for yourself how much difference it makes and how much you like the new look!

Well, I loved the new ships looks. However, after being utterly demolished by no less than 2 pirates at a time, one hitting me with some green beam that killed me in 5 hits, even with my boa class cruiser.
All in all, I'm afraid the new difficulty, is a bit too much for my tastes. So, I guess I'll have to settle in with the old textures.
Thanks for all the advice on these though, they did look very cool.
I just wish they didn't amp up the pirates even more than they already are. Lord knows between the green laser, some light bluish one, and then a mob of 7 pirates, all within playing 3 runs, and having to reload, I'm dying four times more often.

I don't think either Sung's textures, SimonBs models or the DreamTeam set change the stats of the ships at all, just the graphics. The Racers OXP does add a Tiger Gang though that appeares occasionally and it pretty tooled up with firepower. Military OXP adds some real badass ships, so out might want to stay clear of that until you have an iron ass. From the green beam of death you describe, it sounds like you got diced by a Rattle Cutter from Military OXP. In a Cobra Mk III you'd have probabley been ok due to your small profile but the Boa Crusier is a big ship and the side of a barn door to the Cutter!
Generally OXPs are pretty balanced. Realistic Shipyards adds some extreamly powerful ships. but because it adds a load of different ships, its usually pretty balanced as you get a mix of weak and strong ships in a pirate squadren (by the law of averages), but you can get a group of real badasses together generated by bad luck. Renegade Pirates adds very very powerful ships, so should avoid this one unless you have a fully equiped top ship. If you're finding it a bit too harry, take out RS, Military and go for some replacement graphics packs like SimonB's Neo-Oolite, Dream Team, Sung's Textures, Asteroid Storm and station OXPs. Mission OXP wise you should be OK as these only add powerful ships as special mission ships rather than to the game generally.

OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.
So far, I haven't found SimonB's pack, the link to Sungs doesn't take me to a download. I don't see the Dreamteam one on the wiki either. I don't have the Military back, so I guess it's RS that's causing me to get utterly slaughtered by pirates.LittleBear wrote:I don't think either Sung's textures, SimonBs models or the DreamTeam set change the stats of the ships at all, just the graphics. All I want are the replacement graphic packs. I found Asteroid Storm and added it in though. Just need the other 3 you mentioned.

There's a beta version of the dream team with skins for the core ships ... you can get it here.
