Is the Constrictor always this easy?

Post by Captain Sumo »

I'd chased the thing across two galaxies, and finally came face to face with it close to a certain witchspace beacon in galaxy 2. I was all psyched up for a ding-dong battle, but instead the thing just flew away at a leisurely pace, without even firing a shot! I naturally followed it, emptying several rounds of laser fire into it, while it just kept flying in a straight line. Eventually it sped up, but my torus drive kept me in touch, and when it slowed down again, I resumed firing. It fired one missile at me and then expired!

Is this typical? In 1987, an 8-bit, wireframe, monochrome Constrictor came at me all guns blazing. I was expecting more of the same here.

I was in a Drake Mark II. Basically slightly faster than the Cobra, and with a couple of extra missile slots, but that's it. Certainly no reason for the thing to turn around and run away the second it saw me. I've seen elderly muppets in Adders put up more of a fight than this guy!

The Drake is an OXP ship. I'm wondering whether something was stopping the Constrictor from seeing it.

It's not always that easy. The constrictor from the mission was similar to yours while I was flying a Boa Class Cruiser.

However, I had RS in...and that enables rare follow-up encoutners with other Constrictors after that mission, and those really did give me a very good fight. Sometimes they were so difficult to shoot down that I thought that the bounty is not worth it and used my injectors to get away ;)

wasn't easy for me either. first time i found that *beep*, he ran away and i lost him. eventually i jumped to another system, and when i came back, there he was again. and because he was so fast, i got only a few hits on him every time he passed me. but eventually he ran out of fuel and from then on it was much easier. i even managed to capture the escape pod :-).
