How do I upload an avatar?

I've tried several ways but get various rejection mssgs such as:
..needs to be <100 pixels
..needs to be <47K
..needs to be .jpg

After making my picture smaller, and converting file to JPEG & PNG the rejection mssgs disappear and in stead I get this:

My picture is of a BoaCC screenshotted from an Oolite start-up page, pasted onto a white background in MacDraw, trimmed around edge, re-screenshotted as a PDF then converted to JPEG + PNG (at different sizes)

all less than 47K

any ideas? suggestions?

P.S. I have ticked "DELETE IMAGE" box and re-submitted profile in between above attempts

AFAIK it has been recently disabled because the BBS systems avatar section was suffering a security issue and thus someone placed files there.

oh well, at least I have some groovy pix of boaccs viewed from different angles -- some firing missiles -- for wallpaper
