Oolite Traveller

Post by BeRKA »

Hi Again!

I once had a great idea about building a gigantic OXP so that I could play in the Traveller Universe. I asked for some help here (and on other boards), but I didn't get enough help. I couldn't build this OXP by myself. Thanks to all who did help me! That project is on hold right now.

My new idea is to take the Oolite Ooniverse to Traveller. I know that I can pull this off. However, I still would like to have some inputs from the experts here. (Naming, System Data, Holy Cows, Planet Textures, Ships, Rough Guides, Anything, etc...)

I have started by trying to build the Old Worlds Subsector. The scale is one Traveller sector for each Oolite Galaxy. A subsector is 1/16 of that.

Cheers

Selezen and Captain Hesperus have put a load of work into an Elite RPG, which you might find useful. And feel free to extract anything you like from the Rough Guide.

Most of the Elite universe is undefined. Or rather, it's open to free interpretation! But if you're going to get a game running, with (presumably) on-planet action, you might need to start defining what the various Tech Levels mean. How low is TL1? Are they capable of interstellar travel, i.e. more advanced than we are at the moment? Or are they, say, situated somewhere in the Iron Age (anywhere from small tribal societies, to the Roman Empire, to the Middle Ages or even into the gunpowder era)?

Personally, I prefer the latter idea, just because it's more interesting to have backward barbarians knocking about alongside high-tech space travellers. And anyway, technology is a funny thing: the Romans could have had steam engines, bronze cannons and hot-air balloons: they had all the requisite bits and pieces, they just never put them together in the right order ...

For tech-level I intend to use the Classic Traveller rules.
You can find a description at the traveller wiki:
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Technol ... onversions
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Tech_Le ... ison_Chart
So TL-1 means Bronze Age.

I have now looked at the Elite RPG.

Eventhough You say that it is a work in progress, I think it looks quite good. :-)

However, Elite RPG looks like it was meant to play Elite without a computer. It also has its own game mechanics.

I want to use Oolite as background data for playing Traveller.

There are some overlaps (between the two games) and things that might be useful in the Elite RPG, and I'll be happy to use them.

Cheers
