The Problem most likely stems from the fact that this old joystick was made for windows 98s, Ive gone through this problem before (with the gameport) and the people i got it from (radioshack) sold me a converter to usb. I Believe the Usb converter was the only thing that let it work as with that there were no problems.
Im going to call up my friend and see if he can either look for it soon or let me borrow his.
EDIT: My friend let me borrow his joystick! It is an InterAct Raider Pro
It works great, but it is old and it rattles a bit.
Sadly its not as nice as my old one (but a bit less jumpy than mine oddly) This one has 2 buttons on the stick which fits my hand ok (no awards here) but it lacks the throttle and rudder my old one has. On the plus side the bottom buttons are a bit easier to use. (but it lacks the side and secondary top button)
