Best converter for MP3 to AAC under Linux?

Post by DaddyHoggy »

I have discovered that my new Wii comes with Photo Channel 1.1 - this means having just copied 1.5GB of my music collection onto the 2GB SD card I've just bought none of it plays because Photo Channel 1.1 only plays AAC!

Putting "MP3 to AAC conversion Linux" gets me a lot of hits so I was looking for some personal recommendations - ease and speed are what I'm looking for - although quality would be good too - I have no desire to re-rip my CD collection!

I can understand the addition of AAC but why stop the playing of MP3!!! V. Annoyed!

Pity that I asked for a converter for Linux (title and post) and you've pointed my at a converter for the mac... I was briefly quite excited.

I too missed McLane's suggestion - or else I filtered it simply as a "D'oh!" moment from the great commander.

So, just to re-iterate - MP3 to AAC converter for LINUX - suggestions, personal recommendations please....

Otherwise the alternative is <shudders> push my entire music collection from my Ubuntu partition into my XP one - reboot - install iTunes and do the conversion there - not the end of the world but if I don't have to venture into the world of M$ then I won't - otherwise it'd be like admitting that I'm still reliant on M$ - so come on Linux users - help me out!

And where would I find a SID emulator. (And a few tears forming in the corner of my eye.)

More importantly, where can I find the Rob Hubbard tracks to play on it.

Sorry if I confused you here. I just had the idea that iTunes can convert into AAC (it's its native format), but wasn't sure whether it's available for Linux. Hence the questionmark.

Having investigated some more it looks like it's adouble process under linux - something to convert to wav something else to convert to aac - may have to bite the bullet and admit defeat, and slope across to XP... :(

ah-ha!! Looks promising - how long to upload/convert/download 1.5GB of music in 100MB chunks on a 2Mb/s download 256kb/s upload I wonder...

Nice one JB - will make a start over the weekend!

Well, at least it doesn't cost anything to give it a try and see how practical a solution it is...

...and if it's no good, you could try the Freeware Advanced Audio Coder for Linux: http://www.google.com/search?q=freeware ... io%20coder
