The HUD-shop

Post by pagroove »

What about a central topic to post all the HUDS? In progress or released. If you have any work to share post it here. Is that a good idea?

Ok this are my works in progress atm. Lestradae did a bit of playtesting. Lets say that its for up to 4 energy banks. Maybe a high end version for many energy banks will come up in future. The Carbon deluxe can display just a bit more banks.

I have now got permission from Barbaris to base the oxp on the code of the Trekhud.

So anyone else have huds pending for release or released works. Post them here. So it becomes a sort of Shaders outpost or Skinners Den for HUDS and Panels. I also plant to post some panel elements so that anyone may use them to make a quick custom panel such as knobs.

did a minor upgrade to medusa recently:

Fritzed with the molding, lefted the read out a bit, re-centred the clock. Minor stuff really.

Great HUD. I like the scanner on that. It also seems compact but never feels small :D

Hi, as requested I'll post the latest pic of my up-coming Deepspace HUD OXP.

http://www.jblythe.f9.co.uk/files/DeepSpaceHUD_OXP.jpg

Its based on my Deepspace game (now defunct).
Here's what it looked like in my game ... http://www.jblythe.f9.co.uk/Deepspace/deepspace.html

Hopefully the aim is to convert alot of the visual elements I did in my game over to Oolite, starting with this HUD. Fingers Crossed :)

This is one excellent HUD! resolution is also fine now. I like the way the scanner is 'projected' like a beamer. Very futuristic. I wonder if complete cockpits are possible in Oolite. Yes it maybe is more difficult to fight then but it would add up to the atmosphere.

There's no reason why you couldn't put a bulk head in shot. Maybe have plexiglass highlights. Its the same principle used in userbars to fake a domed plastic coating;

You'd gray out a chunk of your screen but if it was made subtle and fine enough, it should be ok. Alternatively you could 3d build a cockpit and seat your camera in the drivers seat. I don't think anyones actually tried that before. :D

I guess it would be possible. The design would need to be such that you take into account the game running in widescreen. As it usually displays the HUD in its 4:3 aspect and just gives you more realestate for the space view on either side.
I guess just adding more dashboard like texture elements to the screen would allow you to build up what essentially looks like a cockpit view. :)

Is it possible to make the dashboard solid? I've tried altering the alpha value but it never achieves full solidity, it always has a transparency to it.

For no transparency, you will need to add the key overall_alpha in hud.plist and give it a value of <real>1.0</real>. By default Oolite uses an alpha of 0.75 because it looks better on the standard HUD.

There's a good reason for that... I've not been playing Oolite long and I have not attained a scoop...

Its in the plist 'code' but I've not seen it... working as its part of Medusa HUD. When I see it and if its in a bad position I'll alter it to work properly.

If someone wants to try it and post a screenshot I'll be grateful. Otherwise it'll have to wait till I get my very own scoop to play with
