Hi pagroove,

looking good - will try that out!

One question: Will this hud be able to handle ships with a lot of energy banks or missiles graphically? The trek hud couldn't ...

Cheers

Nope it's for 4 energy banks max. What are the max enerybanks you want?
Maybe I can make a custom version? Anyway here's the Carbonred :)

My first steps in OXP and texture land on Oolite

Post by DeepSpace »

Hi there... Deepspace hit a large wall, namely my crap coding skills, so I've just started dipping my toes into the OXP world. Here's a couple of pics which show my Deepspace HUD and a re-textured Cobra MK III :D

I managed to run into a new Cobra MkIII in space too, man it looked quite good :) Looking forward to getting others in there. They're just re-drawing over the existing textures, but I'll have to get into actually modelling and exporting to Oolite. Once I suss that then maybe I can get some of my old Deepspace models in their too! :) We'll see.

Hey That's great, but what happened with your own project? I was looking forward to it at the time. Maybe you can merge some more Deepspace Style into Oolite.

Thats the idea :) First I'm gonna do my graphics thing with the ships.
Deepspace was ok, til I got to the nitty gritty coding stuff, such as AI. :( It was just too difficult for me.
When I thought about it, Oolite does everything I was gonna do and more, so I figured why re-invent the dark wheel... ;)

The aim is to have a complete DeepSpace OXP at some point with most of my stuff in it one day.

At the moment I'm just finding my feet.

Sad to hear your project hit the wall, DeepSpace. I remember you from when you announced it here in 2006? (I think). I say, don't trash your project, spend some time learning coding in Oolite, then go back when you feel confident!

I have to say that there have been some huge advances in the past two years and we have a bevvy of genius coder-monkeys, shader-monkeys, skinner-monkeys and OXP-gibbons.

Welcome (back) to the Friendliest Boards This Side of Reidquat!

Thanks it is a nice HUD helped along by your very own Medusa HUD 8) , which I'm not ashamed to say I've used as a learning tool to get into this Config malarky.. Hope you don't mind. I will at a later date be creating a new HUD. I want to have different Fuel and energy bars and put the speed and temp bars back onto the little monitors. :)
I just needed something to start me off. The Medusa HUD looked like one of the nicest ones around and suited what I wanted as a first step.

So credit where its due THE MEDUSA HUD! :D

(not that I whole heartedly vilify the man) but if I minded, my name would be Sung, It is not. "Make the whole thing free baby yeah!" I like the way you've made it 3D and projected that's very nifty.

I'm still sure I can get a pie chart out of some of these stats, I'm going to go back to my programming books and give it another look.....

Oh by the way if you want to fine tune your target site I can let you have the original photoshop file which is still separated into layers. Your welcome to it.

(Looks at website) (clicks a couple of links), so what exactly do you need any of us for? It looks like you've got this elite thing all sown up
single handed. I take it that beautiful thing gracing your website is PC only?
Mmm nice textures, I like your scratches and damaged pain jobs. Masterfully executed. Although my fave has to be the docking image we need stations that size NOW!

Chucky egg, atic atack too. Ooo the very person! Have you ever heard of a game call quasatron? It had a really coool robot hacking mini-game in it (all about selecting logic gates) I always thought that would make an excellent flash game. I like the way you've blended the elite/fronteer experience that's very cool (I like the different types of equipment a little bit of that can really enable people to make a unique ship. A lot of options good too many options bad. Looks like you've got a nice balance there), are you going to put in equipment space?

Anyway, Keep up the sterling work. Right on Commander!

Yeah one of the guys on our team "Retrospec" has done a 3D version of it I believe. Its ok. I didn't get to do the graphics, so maybe I should ask him if he wants to update them. But its there.. Currently I'm working on the graphics for a 3D version of KnightLore!! :)

As for Deepspace, my pitiful coding skills let me down :( I decided that Oolite does everything I was hoping to do and more, so now I'm looking at modding Oolite to look mostly like Deepspace :)

Everything I do is for Free! baby...

Thanks. Yeah my look is very much manga/stylised sort of stylee. :)
Although I have seen stuff by other OXPers and it looks beautiful, some of the hyper-realistic stuff is awesome.

I'd really like to get my planet textures in too, at some point. Dunno how you'd get to apply them to all the planets in the game, I have a nice Cloud system texture too. :)

Not yet, Maybe I should re-name that to DeepSpace OXP (WIP) ;)
