symbols above your name

Post by 0235 »

some of the symbolsa are understandable such as "compitent" and "elite", which are obviously earned by gaining more posts, but other such as "Grand High Clock-Tower Poobah" and "intergalactic spam assassin", how do you get these?

<sits down in rocking chair>
<lights pipe filled with Benulobiweed>

Now then young 'un, yer wond'rin' 'bout th' Intergalactic Spam Assassins. Weeeelllll now, thar's a story y' ain't gunna believe.

Now afore the Prophet o' Giles, Ahruman the Developer, created the great Aegis Field (TM) to protect this here bulletin board, it was a right diff'rent place. A lawless place, almost an Anarchy. See, there was this band o' wild types, th' Spam-bots, that'd get theyselves accounts on the board then try t' sell folks stuff, like hokey medicines (not like Doc. Nil's hokey medicine) an' pr0nz.

At th' time Ahruman an' his deputies was snowed unner tryin' t' beat off them Spammers and folks was sufferin' cos o' it. Then a group formed up, based on the principles o' Truth, Justice, Freedom and the Ability to Enjoy Oolite without Spam. They called themselves the Spam Assassin's an they made their base in that clock-tower over there, so's they could see the Spammers comin' and head 'em off at th' gates. That's the tower over there. The tall 'un with the quad barrelled AA flak gun bolted on the side, the entrenched mortar pit and the heap of shell casings an' hungry Trumbles inside.

The Spam Assassins started t' clean up the board, trackin' down the Spam-bots in whatever disguises they assumed, reportin' 'em to The Great Developer, so he could unmake them. All was well, folks joined the boards, posted an' had a rootin'-tootin' time. Then came the Dark Time, when th' board's front-line spam protection got sabotaged an' the Spammers mounted a great assault agin the boards. It wus all hands on deck with shifts o' Spam Assassin's trackin' down an' eliminatin' hunnreds o' Spam-bots ev'ry day. Ahruman finally constructed the Aegis Field and created the barrier that's since staved off all but the most determined Spammers.

Th' Spam Assassins didn't retire tho', they just stood down. There's always a chance o' the Dark Time returnin' and if'n it does, it'll find us waitin'.

<pats Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle, affectionately>

Dang, but this Benulobiweed's strong! The walls'r meltin' agin......

And I was darn proud to be stood, knee deep in hot shell casings, by your side Cap'n. Them were the dayz, not good, but dayz nonetheless.

Hmm yes, those were the days...

Before those turret platforms went into operation, there were fighter patrols along the perimeter. You can see one in the museum. Yes, that gleaming white Excalibur with the '666' and the skull n' crossbones painted on the beam laser housing. That would be the Wraith, tasked with escorting munition shipments to the Tower, and ambushing drug spammers as they came out of Witchspace.

If the missiles and laser bursts tearing across their hulls as that fearsome little fighter bore down on them like an angel of death didn't warn them of the destruction to come, the flak barrage from the Tower's mighty 88's certainly would.

But when those 88's opened up, escape from a one-way ride to Hell would be impossible.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard from TGHC recently?
I shot him back first. That is to say, I read his mind and fired before he would have fired on me. No, sir, he wasn't a fugitive.

Actually the question is much more: Has anybody heard from Uncle Reno recently? Image (As far as I recall he was the first one among us who was appointed Intergalactic Spam Assassin.)

No, that seems to have been consumed in total by LittleBear, rendering him unable to react in any way to the latest Münchhausiade. :wink:
