Favourite ship

Post by Tivva »

Ok Poll time- Whats your fave ship?
I've not set up the poll voting options as there are too many to list- Please just post a reply.

I always liked the Imp & was looking as to what would/could replace it.
After a while I came across a Falcon-S which although not 'old school' I thought it might be able to take Player turrets later..
A fast ship with a half decent cargo capacity but a bit slow on the turns & smaller than an Imp when manual docking- which surprised me.
But then I went to Tezaeded & found a Constrictor for sale. A snip at 3470000, just couldn't resist it. Impulse buy.
How does it test drive?
A bit twitchy to say the least, but getting used to it now. Cargo is less than I'd like but now I find i don't bother buying stuff, just collecting 'spoils of war' to sell...
So whats your fave ship owned & whats your dream ship?

I've been VERY fond of the Merlin. Looks great, handles better than anything I've tried so far (quite some ships). The Cargo capacity is a bit small, but it's still possible to make noticeable money with that ship. Fighting 20+ pirates at once is no problem.

The problem is, that the Merlins size is like a Cargo Canister. Ships with multiple lasers cannot hit it. Other ships still do have severe troubles to hit it. I sold it because it's too much an über-ship that way.

My dream-ship appears to be the Caduceus. I'm desperately looking for one to buy!

I guess I would do the same as you, as soon as I find another Constrictor for sale, now that I can buy it, but because of severe troubles with my installation, I've reduced the amount of OXPs dramatically and took RS/OSE temporarily out. Is the player-Constrictor really invulnerable to anything below military lasers?

Before installing OXPs, the Boa Class Cruiser was my favourite. Great for making money to buy ships once OXPs are installed...sometimes it's difficult to fight small&fast ships, but it's always an option to run them over. Mining is as easy as ramming an asteroid and waiting for things to be scooped up!

I am still a big fan of the Fer-de-Lance: it's fast, sleek and iconic, and in Oolite, the pitch and roll of the Fer are just perfect for me.

The ship that fits my combat tactics for now is the Dragon M.

However, there may be a new star on the horizon.

I've been tinkering with a model for awhile now on and off, that borrows a bit in shape from the Dragon, Caduceus and Vampire, yet is influenced heavily by everything I've read on lifting-body aircraft, and proposed concept single-stage-to-orbit vehicles including the Delta Clipper experiments.

The model, which I for now call LBX - "Lifting Body Experimental" - is slowly shaping up to look like an advanced aircraft designed to go into orbit, all sleek and streamlined. Of course, going for the superjet look is bringing it's poly count up. The model is past 400 polys now.

I've not yet decided if I'll release LBX in an oxp. Stay tuned...

I'm currently enjoying a Boa Class Cruiser.
It has the blend of features that suit my purposes. Although it might not be able to fight off 20 pirates at once (without a Q-bomb), it can scoop all their cargo.

Since I've elected to delay installing any OXP's, it's my favorite among the classic Elite/Oolite ships.

I wouldn't mind testing some large naval vessels equipped with military lazer turrets, plasma turrets and missiles capable of loading Q-bomb or Energy Bomb warheads.
If said naval vessel was also able to serve as a carrier for squadrons of Fighters, Fighter/bombers and Reconnaisance ships, well that would be even better.
Imagine an Oolite version of Space Battleship Yamato! ;-)

In the meantime, I'll sally forth in my well equipped B.C.C. 8)

Not really talking about performance here, but anything by Simon_B or Griff is my current favourite...

Gotta be a toss up between the Dubious Profit (a bit biased there) and the Imp Courier.

Yup. Count on Griff or Simon to pimp it up to the max. If they could figure out a way to put custom van paint jobs, boom box stereos, fuzzy dice and spinning chrome rims on a Cobby, then Lave Orbitspace would be known as "Da Hood."

I'd go with my trusty Imperial Courier, the Artemis...
I flew The Morrigan once, it was a nice ship, but the model blocked the view - pain in the neck.
I shot him back first. That is to say, I read his mind and fired before he would have fired on me. No, sir, he wasn't a fugitive.

As I've first downgraded to a MKI I'm now currently flying a Starseeker personal shuttle and finds it a nice little ship (spec wise) The looks could be better (texture I mean(. So nothing advanced yet. But it's a step up from the MK1.

Maybe the commies should put their workers commuter for sale in order to make young Jamesons happy that they can buy something "far superior to a python"? ;)

What astonishes me is, that I haven't found anyone on the boards so far who said to be flying the Merlin. Are you all afraid of sitting in a flying cargo canister or did you all notice beforehand that it's too much an über-ship?

I flew one for a little while but I just didn't like something about it...

Yeah,

But for a not so rich commander it isn't a bad choice
I forgot to say it's with a 15tc cargobay, Mil Laser and all sorts of upgrades.

I fly it with the Trek Hud.
