ah, it's not going to be that good - just a few box shapes and a circle with eyes painted on it wobbling around erratically :)

i'm working on one, same look as the drinking spaceman. 50's style boxy robot, hopefully i can pose it with a few of John Travoltas dance moves from Saturday Night Fever!
I think you should try to work in some dancing like this as well.

Poor old Rick, his life must be hell!

Here's pangloss's glow_ads artwork ready for the oxp (it just needed a greyscale copy of the artwork in the alpha channel to power the glow effect)
Image

if you save this out as pangloss_glow_ads.png the code below is ready for popping into the shipdata.plist - i've remembered to put the materials info in so players with shaders turneed off will also see the new set of ads (but without the glow effect)

Code: Select all

"pangloss_glowads_for_trade_outpost" =
	{
	model = "griff_station_glowads.dat";
	roles = "griff_station_subent";

	materials =
        {
        // Swap out texture when shaders are off
        "griff_station_glow_ads.png" = { diffuse_map = "pangloss_glow_ads.png"; };
        };

	shaders =
		{
            "griff_station_glow_ads.png" =
			{
                vertex_shader = "ahruman-generic.vertex";
                fragment_shader = "griff_station_hull.fragment";
                textures = ("pangloss_glow_ads.png");
			};
		};
	};

I'm just fiddling about in the racing ship thread (calling all graphics designers). As soon as I have overhauled the Ichihara S-Pulse Sidewinder, I'll have some things to do around the house and I'll get started on the next glowing ads.

Note to all: next Monday is Martin Luther King Day here in the US. I work in a job which isn't open on Federal holidays, so I'll have the better part of a day to fit designs in, between my house errands for the day. Expect the motherlode on that day, compared to what I've been inputting so far!!

...and then Oolite was down, and I didn't know until I emailed Ahruman that there's a Twitter for the game.

So that gave me time to actually get some design done in my free time.

Image

Some of these were so good, I might want to develop them into ads for YAH or the Ring Racing League. Oh, and the Japanese at the top says "London English"...

done! Very cool artwork yet again pangloss!

Image

Code: Select all

"pangloss_glowads_set2_for_trade_outpost" =
   {
   model = "griff_station_glowads.dat";
   roles = "griff_station_subent";

   materials =
        {
        // Swap out texture when shaders are off
        "griff_station_glow_ads.png" = { diffuse_map = "pangloss glowads_set2.png"; };
        };

   shaders =
      {
            "griff_station_glow_ads.png" =
         {
                vertex_shader = "ahruman-generic.vertex";
                fragment_shader = "griff_station_hull.fragment";
                textures = ("pangloss glowads_set2.png");
         };
      };
   };
edit: i'd make a mistake in the above code- the texture names were listed the wrong around.

New addition to the drinking spaceman.

Image

...and if you're wondering where you might have seen this before...

Image

And I'd just like to say... 1024 pixels? Really?!??

It wasn't that hard to deal with the non-integer number. I did the frames 500 px in height each, made the 5 frames with a border of 1px. Then stacked them in an image 2500 px high, removed the one-pixel lines, and THEN reduced it to 1024.

Seeing as I used a modified GIF that's already out there... does anyone have any animated GIFs in this vein (funny and animated) that you'd like to see on top of the ConStores?

I'm not stalking you honest! The stripping down of animated GIFs also struck me as an idea - guess we'd have to check that they were copyright free...

This one's in a thousand PhotoBucket accounts. If it's copyrighted, they're not enforcing it. And Oolite is not-for-profit, so I can't see anyone claiming "hey, I HAD THAT IDEA"... :wink:

Pangloss sorry about this but although it looks great as it is when I put it on the roof of the station … well it looks like it does not belong there if you know what I mean. The image is too big and static and the colors are too dark so it does not emulate the felling of a neon roof billboard.

Look at Griffs drinking spaceman and also at A_H wormhole ship at the spacebar of random hits oxp. They have movement and the colors are very bright. The bright colors that they have contrast with the dark surround so they give you the neon impression of a billboard.
Moreover I am not so sure about the copyright staff.

Yet the glowads look great and they are already in the star constore (one more and we are over with the glowads)

I cranked up the Saturation to the max, added more neon, and resized it so it's more the size of the Spaceman. The cat is now the mascot of the Food Court. New hotness on the right, old & busted on the left.

Image Image

I'd say using the cat is Fair Use as much as the way we've taken a hundred real company logos and changed them for the game. After all, the original is in black and white. Every other version of it on the web is monochrome. This one's orange, and has a blue bucket. Totally different!

I'll have to start working on one more glow-ads board in the next few days.

Mandatory overtime at work: one of the few places in the Western world with more work than ever, and I work there. So no glow-ad YET...

I have been thinking of an animation I can do without any words etc. I drew this quickly... but I think I can have the alien in the box do some sort of movement (he's in a box only because it takes so long to draw the legs as well!).

Image

What I'm thinking is... the full alien with lega and tail, making some sort of movement from left to right, or throwing something in the air and catching it in five frames. So the tail could be animated too.

This is going to take a LOT of artwork, so will take some time. But I have a vision of a neon xenomorph juggling. I doubt I'll be able to do something that complex, but we'll find out.

What about tossing a human spaceman into it's mouth? Of course, over the text "Best Eatery in the Universe!"
