I'm in the same position as Griff - lost my pilot and no backup - now too busy with RL (family mostly) and writing and just doing Ads for the constores and YAH to actually play the game!
What he said. And racing livery for Ichihara S-Pulse too. I did attempt to get my ship a few systems closer to Lave and took out a Thargoid but that's it.

Well, as far as bragging is concerned:

Oh I'll trade up to the Gold Wings, my young friend, and I'll do it with skill, without cheating with resorting to cascade bombs and uberships. The same way I obtained the Silver.
So no, you're wrong. That -is- a reason to brag.

Besides, there was a month or so when I was out of action with damaged flight controls. (The old joystick broke, and I never launch without a functional HOTAS in my hands.)

What about my third vote? (can somebody please tell me how to check?)
I shot him back first. That is to say, I read his mind and fired before he would have fired on me. No, sir, he wasn't a fugitive.

Look at the screenshot above (and forget about the fact that it's in German). Do you see the line that reads
★★★ E L I T E ★★★ (10410)
.
Now guess what the number in brackets stands for...

Then fire up your game, load your commander, and tell us what the number reads on your screen.

Oh, that one there.. it says "A lot".

That's all. I think I overloaded the kill counter a while ago...

Apparently I'm the first respondent with more than 10000 kills. Nobody else as addicted as me?!?
I started early december 2008...and have 8121 kills now. During most heavy testing, I had 1000 kills within a day.

For quite some time I haven't been hunting down so many pirates, which is the reason why the counter ain't over 10K yet, two more heavy hunting days and I'd be there ;)

Oh, yes, and I got rid of the Merlin, which did help very much in achieving those kills. Guess that one's the real über-ship.

Hmmm. Reminds me of this book with the chinese calculator, where everything above a low number would be accounted for as some sort of yellow ;)

Maybe an idea for another oxp...and additional messages. "Right on, Commander." Pah...everyone knows that message! But why don't we get "learn to aim!" "get yourself new glasses" or similar stuff when we miss too often in a row? Maybe something that even counts how many shots we fire and how many do hit/miss? Maybe include, how many shots have been fired at my ship and how many of them did hit it...

My hard disk decided to die last month :( Back from Deadly to Harmless...

45 kills right now and counting.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
Once again...

No, you should get it when you overheat your lasers without hitting anyone...

My killcount is really around 2100...

Jeez, don't you guys backup? :-)

I have about 3300. I still think that someone's idea of becoming oolite after Elite and then ooolite, oooolite etc was a genous idea.

1300 in Oolite, 5000 or so on the C64, 500 in TNK, another 500 on Elite Platinum on the PC and a few dozens spread out over several versions in emulators. Can I count them all? :P

'Galaktischer Hyperraumturbo' sounds soooo much better than 'Galactic Hyperspace' 8)

I have about 750 kills at the moment, but my kill rate has slowed down considerably as I'm working my way to a SuperCobra.

Perhaps a better poll would be one for kill rate.
