1.72.2 CPU use

Post by Divas Kind Imps »

Hey all,

Downloaded and installed 172.2 test- as well I included add-on oxp files (my usual group).

Sound loads and plays. Graphics are bug-slow and interface sllllooooowwww to respond. Checked cpu use by exe and clocked it at 95-98%.

Before I move back to an earlier version (7.72 works fine) I thought I'd leave all as it is so you can request particular files to help you look for the problems:-)

What OS? What service Pack of the OS (if Windows)?

What A/V solution? Is it running or disabled? Was it running when the update was installed?

What video card? Driver?

What background programs / systray icons are running?

OK, here comes sys specs:

WinXP: Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium 4 1.9GHz
1.89GHx, 1.0 GB RAM

Manufacturer : Nvidia Corp (Micro-Star International Co Ltd (MSI))
Model : NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200
Bus Type : AGP
Total Memory : 64 MB
Texture Memory : 178 MB
Processor : GeForce3 Ti 200
Converter : Integrated RAMDAC
Refresh Rate (min/max) : 60/85 Hz
Properties :
Version : 6.14.10.9371
Description : NVIDIA Compatible Windows 2000 Display driver, Version 93.71
Copyright : (C) NVIDIA Corporation. All rights reserved.
Original Filename : nv4_disp.dll
Product Name : NVIDIA Compatible Windows 2000 Display driver, Version 93.71
Internal Name : nv4_disp.dll
Organisation : NVIDIA Corporation
Product Version : 6.14.10.9371

AV solution... Antivirus? If so, AVG. Oolite installed offline. AVG off when installing.
When offline and using pc for entertainment/work I turn off the active software, though 3 background minimal-memory processes continue running: AVG resident shield, AVG e-mail scanner, and AVG watchdog. No other background programs running other than a few of WinXPs nascent services I've not disabled. If a list of the Winxp services I've left on are needed, I'll provide.

anything else?

No shaders.

I'll catch-up with providing more data tomorrow afternoon if needed.

DKI signing of for this eve.

It would be helpful to know what it is, for future reference. :-)

Gotcha-

I was fiddling with openGL compatability settings and was forcing software rasterization.
