galactic 'reverse'

Post by Yodeebe »

Greetings.
Any reason why you can only jump forward through galaxies?
If you can jump from G1 to G2, then why not from G2 to G1?
It could add an interesting '3Dness' to glactic jumping, and free up the impossible to reach bits, by jumping backwards into the impossible-to-reach bits.

It would surely be an easy modification to the ships galactic hyperdrive?

Actually, your OSE WiP already does that: It modifies your Galactic Hyperdrive to come out at the same coordinates you jumped from in the last galactic sector

As for the reversed galactic hyperdrive, or even a multiple drive (that does two or more jumps forwards or backwards at once) - nice idea, at least immediately no reason comes to mind why not.

Cheers

Isn't the path between G1 and G8 to do with the flow of energy between the points and that's why you can't go against the flow and jump back to a different part of the galaxy without going all the way round?

I don't know the exact technobabble reason right now, but the wormholes only work one-way. Period.

(Just to remind you that this is still ELITE, after all. Some things don't change.)

Read mutablis. There's a lot of power there keeping the wormholes open with ships passing through one way - in fact, their gravitational fields brush against the torn edges of a hole punched through realspace and witchspace and help to keep it open. But if ships passed through both ways: 1: Collisions might occur. 2: Ever pat a cat the wrong way? (If you haven't, go pet Hesperus tail to head - NEVER head to tail; it bends his fur backwards

No..........

Ok, I was stereotyping across all cats - I have a small one aboard the Artemis (my IC) that the Humanoid Rights League complains bitterly about.

Ummm.... I think they have to be humoid for them to protest about. and the earthen ones are too dumb to be protested by the species rights people.

Well what if I started abusing apes? You'd complain (hopefully)...

Depends what you ment by abuse and if said apes could
a) Understand the nature of your actions as abuse.
b) Get hold of you.

If the answer to A and B happened to be yes then chances are I wouldn't need to complain. I'd need to call a coroner and a skilled mortician to fix your humpty dumpty ass.

Back on topic.... It makes people think about their actions having a restriction like that.

why do people have to take an idea that in one form or another has been amazing for nigh on 3 decades and try to change it to make it easier...

Shortcuts are not always the best ways to go...

You want to get to Galaxy 8 quickly then save up 35K and follow the proper route!!!
If you listen carefully you can hear the screams in the distance...
Or maybe that is just my tummy...

Why, FSO - are you a cat yourself?...
