Invisible OXPs

Post by MKG »

Hi all,

I found Oolite a few days ago and, as an Elite addict from donkey's years ago, I'm over the moon with it. And I find the OXP concept quite brilliant. My only problem is that they don't seem to work for me. I'm running Vista and I've got Oolite v.1.72.1 (about to be upgraded to 1.72.2). Everything runs beautifully. I've put my downloaded OXPs into the directory I'm told to (in my case C:\Games\Oolite\AddOns and I've made sure that it really is the OXP directory rather than the "holdall" directory from the zip file.

Unfortunately, they just sit there being ignored. My new HUD doesn't appear. Nothing appears. What am I doing wrong, please?

Can you please post the Latest.log contents? The file should be located in Vista under C:/User/<Your Username>/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Games/Oolite/oolite.app/Logs. Not sure if this is exactly correct as I don't have Vista, but you should be looking for it under the VirtualStore folder.

It will be clearly visible there whether your OXP folder is being looked at at startup or not. I would also recommend trying a different hud, just to be sure.

Hi Mike, and welcome to the boards! It's a three-drink minimum, by the way... :)

Have you tried holding down the "shift" key while starting the game?

Can we please give it a rest with the OS bashing? It's getting old, you know...

Alien greetings and salutations.

Just to double-check that all the folders in your AddOns directory end in .oxp ?

As for the HUD, also what ship are you flying and what HUD are you trying to use?IIRC some HUDS install more smoothly than others, and some ships have their own HUDS as part of their design so getting them to work with other ones can be interesting.

Oh so quick!

Another_commander got it. I looked in the Latest.Log and, sure enough, the OXP file is being loaded. So I tried another HUD, and there it is now, with all bells and whistles.

Obviously, some OXPs do and some OXPs don't.

Thanks guys.

Some HUDS need a little work to get them to function (as you're actually over-ruling the built-in HUD rather than installing something totally new).

Look in the readme file within the OXP for details (which in some cases may be within the .oxp folder rather than the wrap, usually if it wasn't made on a Mac).

But osbashing is so fun....
I shot him back first. That is to say, I read his mind and fired before he would have fired on me. No, sir, he wasn't a fugitive.

...and that's why we have reserved an entire thread for it. (Although we wouldn't be this forum if we wouldn't derail it as well. )

As was said earlier, some HUDs are ship-specific and only appear if you purchase and use that particular ship. It should say so in their description, naturally.

The osbashing thread posters have temporarily stopped bashing each other to start bashing non-contributers! We will control the forum! :P
