Are you sure you saw wormholes? The detonation time of a cascade mine is too short for anybody to hyper out. I guess what you saw was the mine detonation (also visual as a blue sphere, but much much bigger) and the subsequent detonations of the ships involved (the thing is called Quirium Cascade Mine for a reason).
