As a noob myself, I've found that some things you just have to discover for yourself, so I thought I'd keep a list of things that might be useful to others. I'll keep adding as I find new things out... Forgive me if some of these things are obvious/already documented, all I can say is I couldn't find them and they weren't that obvious to me... And of course, please add your own...
1- you can't use extra fuel tanks until you've got the multi-target scanner (you need the scanner to cycle through your missiles (y) to get to the fuel tank. Oh, and they're called 'mines' on your hud.
2 - If you've been using the mouse to buy cargo, you won't have been able to buy less than the max amount. Use the arrow keys to scroll though commodities (u/d) and (l/r) to buy your tonnes...
3 - the fuel scoop is always active, there's no key to 'deploy' it.

But if you want a few more from a not-quite-so-noob:
- The station buoy is there for a reason, not just to crash into on launch if you don't change course.
- Don't be afraid to run away from a fight if you're not yet iron ass'd.
- Trumbles are for life, or at least for a nice hot meal.
- Multiple short jumps are quicker than one long one.
- If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the anarchy system.
- Going off the beaten track is good for a quiet life.
- Industrial systems inhabitants can't eat machines, and agricultural ones can't mass produce things with carrots.
- Don't do naughty things in front of the police, but if no-one sees it, did it really happen?
- A lower spec'd but highly pimp'd ride can cost the same as a flashy but basic-equipped one.
- When in doubt save game, and when not in doubt save anyway. And always back-up.
- Big expanding blue spheres are not good for your health.
- If you're planning on dropping a mine, make sure you've got your running space-shoes on first.

- Good games come with a manual. Great games come with a manual, wiki, FAQ, a couple of websites and the friendliest forum this side of Riedquat. Take a moment to look at them, you might discover a thing or two and become less noob
Brilliant would have been to also link at least the wiki, the FAQ, and perhaps a central website.
Indeed, consider it done (retrospectively, belatedly and rather pointlessly as you've linked too, but may as well be thorough ).

What about
The more you use your ship, the more it gets run into the dirt and their is absolutely nothing anyone in the whole world of wiki, google, links or whatever knows even to type about it so you will end up with a ship somehow worth zero credits for no known reason and no visible way to get it back up....(collapses on floor gasping for air)

Except perhaps the maintenance issue, as I mentioned in reply to your originally posted question?

Done a nice happy 38 ly trade and all well and good.
To you new kids following after me, here is the latest tip. DO NOT DRIVE A CRUISER INTO A POLICE SHIP. ELSE, YOU'RE STUFFED. (And this isn't first hand....ehem.... )
