Pity there isn't a flag built into the ship plist that simply states:

Can dock? yes/no

To avoid such ramming issues.
That's an idea! I'm taking this to the scripting requests.

If the AI's written properly then it shouldn't be necessary should it? And if the AI says dock but the shipdata.plist says no, what is it supposed to do :?

Indeed, a yes/no decision on docking is the AI’s responsibility. A way to query whether the ship can actually fit a given station’s dock might be useful, but also more complex.

And even with such a check it would fail. I think this are ships that have a trader role. Traders are also launched sometimes by the system.
I agree it is the responsibility of the author to not give a trader role to a ship that can't really act as a trader.

If there was a can-I-fit-in-this-station method, the generic trader AIs could be rewritten to do something sensible.

Back in the topic, Griff has done it again. Coriolis station, next generation Oolite graphics:

And again:

Note also the extra gauge on the HUD? This is the yaw indicator, which will be possible to draw as an optional from the next version on.

Griff, if you could just make an attempt for the Cobra MKIII with your style of textures and normal mapping, I could try to recreate a screenshot themed after the Elite poster of 1984. The Coriolis already looks better than the one from the poster, so it's only the Cobby missing. Now, that would be a DVD cover, wouldn't it?

One small coding job for a man, one giant leap for funny-looking trapezoids.

Not that it looks easy to do, but the quote wouldn't make sense otherwise.
I shot him back first. That is to say, I read his mind and fired before he would have fired on me. No, sir, he wasn't a fugitive.
