Oolite Movie...

Post by drew »

Was looking at these things today...

www.galacticsoft.co.uk

www.moviestorm.co.uk

Has anyone used them?

Looking at what they can do, in tandem, it might be possible to create an 'Oolite movie'. The galacticsoft product appears to be able to import 3ds models, but it's not clear whether it supports anything else.

When I have some MFT (mythical free time) I might have a try out.

Are there any 3ds models for Elite/Oolite ships about?

Cheers,

Drew.

Wings3D can export to 3DS format, so practically anything created for Oolite can be exported...

:-)

It looks pretty good for making animations based on 3D models, but a real movie needs actors! Will it create 3D sets and allow live-action stuff to me merged in?

Well moviestorm allows you to create sets and have CGI 'people' in them. Some of the sample videos look quite clever. You'd need voice-actors for the parts, but there wouldn't be a need to get into real set building and chroma-screening etc.

I'm just thinking of what is do-able within the confines of not spending a great deal of money.

@Drew - I downloaded this last year - the CGI battles are stunning - better than anything DS9 managed even during the damn fine Dominion Wars arc - probably a bit out of our league though!

Any chance you/someone could email me a Cobra and Imperial Courier in 3ds or obj format (or what ever wings3d uses?)

I was thinking of doing a 'proof of concept' with those two ships.

And mine! I don't even think we have Lightwave here at work and we've got some nice "toys" here - such as Creator, Cinema and 3DSMax2009

I've just noticed you can download a mobile phone version too - well I was looking for stuff to fill up the rest of my 4GB M2 card....

I remember the good old days when early Bab5 was done on lots of Amigas and VideoToaster... (which of course is where Lightwave started)

Holy crap! That Star Wreck stuff is amazing! Shame about the acting though. The CGi is amazing for a fan film.

Drew: of course I'll email you the files - do you want the original Wings files or the 3DS versions?

@Selezen - the acting is terrible and yet kinda charming - it grows on you!

if you're serious about making a movie I'll help out. As for the 3d models, I think we should work on some high resolution ones/film quality versions.

I'd like to do a proof of concept first. Maybe a quick fight scene between a couple of ships and see what the art of the possible is with this level of software.

Would like to see it, and happy to collaborate too - any particular thoughts on it?

Cheers,

Drew.
