On Time

Post by Alex »

A while back I read a post by someone that I would like to thank, unfortunatly, I don't remember who it was. What was said was that if you are really short on time to fulfill a contract; make shorter jumps!
Well There I was on Reerqu G2 with about 1100Kg of Plat to go to Cemabe within 15 days, Only 80Kc on the line. No worries eh, tis only about 90 odd light years. So I tried it out. Now to jump about 7Ly can be 40 odd hours, but if you split it with inbetweens you can almost take a 3rd off the time. To help matters on I didn't dock at all, sun skipped all the way. I made the delivery with 3 days to spare. I had saved the game on Reerqu, so had a fixed starting point. And had tried it with the Nav's directions, nearly 4 days late! Then tried the same way sun skipping, still very late!
So Commander ?? Great tip and Ta very much :D

A wee tip for new commanders;
When getting fuel from the sun, don't try to skim it, that just allows you to bake. Head straight in at hyper and when the suns mass shuts it down use the injectors with what ever you have left, as soon as the scoops come on flip over and head out. Scooping at injector speed replaces fuel faster than you can burn it.
It's handy to have your next jump already set, otherwise you have to use a little fuel to get back out. At normal speeds there is a good chance you will still fry even though heading away.

Thanks accepted! :D

(Although there are certainly other people who mentioned the jump-time equation as well recently.)

If you want to arrive to a destination in the shortest time possible, the Nav Array's instructions will not help you. The Nav Array gives the smallest jump number route to destination and does not take into account time required to travel.

At some point there had been a proposal to add additional functionality to the Nav Array to display shortest travel time routes as well. It remained at the proposal level, but someone could come back to this one day and try it.
