These shader thingies...
Are they Mac only, or can humble Linux users enjoy the goodness?
Cheers,
Drew.

Drew, as a fellow Ubuntu user I can report Oolite has shaders on my PC (gfx card is an FX5900XT using the nvidia restricted drivers - that Ubuntu goes off and finds and installs if you try and turn on the nice gfx desktop effects without having it there already).

Drew, just fire up Oolite and look at the log. If it does not say anything along the lines of "Shaders cannot be used" then you are good to go.
If you want to be 100% sure, load up the Freaky Thargoids OXP (found in the Wiki) and wait in the ship parade screen for the Thargoid and Thargon ships to appear. Do they have animated textures? If yes, you are good with shaders.

It's called the 'Trade Outpost' - there's one version of it here:

But there's another version too (made by Captkev?) where it looks a lot more moody & serious, and works better as a proper oolite station, i can't find the link for that though at the moment.

I heard Vista and OpenGL don't play very nice, though. Does anyone know from experience?another_commander wrote:All major supported versions of Oolite (Mac, Win32, Linux) support shaders, provided your graphics card and drivers can handle them. When Oolite starts up, it will check for shader support and report any inability to use them in Latest.log.
Best wishes,

1.72 runs very well on my laptop which is Vista Home. I haven't got shaders though.
