Having just returned to my local system and checked in I am delighted!

Thank you very much and sorry for being so belated in dropping back. I have been playing but completely snowed by other forums and (real?) work!

my gamma must be rubbish, i can't see a thing other than the usual black space and some stars on that print. :-(

Yeah, the effect is really sublime, which is the nice thing about it.

Or my gamma is rubbish, too.... :?

Old screens, and in particular old CRTs, tend to be bad at showing dark colours. Boo.

ahhh, yep... that's reeeallly clear... ... 8) ...ah, that's better...

..but, yes, the new overall effects are very pretty. In fact, combined with the new planetary textures, Oolite has been significantly transformed visually. Very impressive. :D
Very funny, Scotty, now beam down my clothes...

yeah, that one worked. and i'm not using CRT, but i don't use the standard windows gammas etc, so that might explain something.
but if you look through APOD, some nebulae are anything but subtle :-)

The nebulae you see on APOD are also far from realistic.

In natural light, nebulae are generally quite hard to spot, especially if you’re close to them.

Maybe add some pixelated noise to the smeared stuff...
or blur the grainy parts a bit more.

ccan you spot the nebula dwelling alien?
It's head is in the middle of the tophalf of the image. ;)
