Do bounty values change?

Post by JohnnyBoy »

How are bounties worked out? Are they set for each NPC as I witchspace into a system and stay fixed? Or do they change according to the behaviour of the NPC? I know that a ship's status can change from 'offender' to 'fugitive' if it attacks a GalCop. I'd always assumed that this would alter the bounty, but I have no way of checking this - I could kill a ship as an offender or as a fugitive but not both. :) (Didn't Schroedinger have that problem with his cat? Or was that Heisenberg? ;) )

Yes, bounties can change.

This happens, I think, if the police see a crime committed.

Over time (measured in H jumps) bounties go down (the GalCops forget). This applies to both the player and NPC ships (as far as the engine is concerned the same rules apply to the player and NPCs). Comitting crimes (attacking a GalCop, attacking a clean ship (if the Cops spot it) and trading in stuff you shouldn't increase the score). The player is spawed with a zero score as a young Jameson. NPC are spawed with a score, which may go up or down depending on what they do.

It was Heisenberg who said that you can determine a position exactly but that you than will have no clue about his speed. And by the time you had figured out his speed exactly you hadn't a clue about his whereabouts.

If you want to know the whole truth:

A bounty of 0 ist displayed as status CLEAN.

Any bounty from 1Cr to 50Cr is displayed as status OFFENDER.

Any bounty of 51Cr and above is displayed as status FUGITIVE.

That's it, and it's the same for NPCs and the player.

Well in that case, those fugitive Ixian Battle Cruisers must have been very, very naughty... :D

Have you ever seen one of them trying to dock?
That's a crime in and of itself!

you can use the bounty IFF add on... OXP found here....
(shameless self promotion)... ;-)

http://wiki.alioth.net/images/8/86/Boun ... rV1.03.zip

it will list the bounty, if it has any in the missile reticle.. notice that whatever showed in the reticle.. the build in thargoids or those oxp ships that mimic them.. has a max bounty of 100... regardless of what the bounty of the ship actually is..

Cheers, Frame...
