q-bombs galore

Post by bob19 »

Jumped into Riredi to re arm when a cobra (just in scanner range) decided to end it all. A comms message came through from him, something about "Away! Away! flee from the wraths to come" then there was nothing but a large purple q bomb cloud. Happened 3 more times at systems in the vicinity.
I just added missionaries, I wonder if guilt over their days of naughtiness caught up with them.
Added a few new oxps and wow! all the new ships and convoys I've seen.
No way I could pick which of the ones I have installed is the best, they have all added a little something, love to install all but I think my system is starting to struggle a bit
Just wondering whether it is worthwhile traveling into deepspace, is anything to be found "out there"? :D
Gotta go, just had news there has been a sighting of the Ghost Ship.
Sorry meant to post this in the discussion forum.

and try to find out what the panicking Cobra is running away from...

(Although this is already the second report I am getting about "finding the messenger but not the message". Probably I should change something in flying_Dutchman.oxp.)

Depends on whether you have installed Deep Space Pirates or not.

Well colour me stupid, never even thought of that. :D
Not sure whether I want to meet it after the last episode. In a system last night must have been 6 or 7 of them set off bombs, lost count of the purple clouds. Luckily I had a tank of fuel to "beat the feet" with.

Installing as we speak.
Found a good mark 111 for sale with naval energy unit fitted, off to spend some of my hard earned, time for the original cobra to be retired.
Man I'm having a truck load of fun.

No, there should only ever be one panicking Cobra in a system, and only until you actually have met the Ghost Ship (I had thought that you would more or less automatically meet it the first time, so the continuous occurence of suicidal (or just extremely unlucky) Cobras was never planned; as I said, I should go over it again). Once you have tasted the "wraths to come" yourself, there is only a small chance to ever meet the Ghost again. But you have to taste them! - And q-bombs are by far not the only accident that could (and will) happen to you, if you meet him.

On the other hand side, the Ghost does nothing to any other ships except the player. So whatever distant explosions you have seen, they are unrelated. It just sometimes happens that a pirate or another ship drops a q-bomb...

Still haven't met him yet, thought I might have had a chance last night but as I was heading in that direction I was jumped by a squad of pirates so spent a bit of time getting rid of them so lost the chance.
Added a few more oxps, now running into heaps of different ships, of which some are really hard to get on top of.
I will get a look at him soon.
It has happened, off to the nearest seedy bar for a large drink. :)

The good news is that you have now put it behind you. There is only a small chance to meet him again.

So, did anything unlucky happen to you while you were pursuing him?

The pilot stumbles into the bar, legs still trembling. Looking up he notices the shocked look on the bartenders face.
In a voice barely above a whisper the barman asks “What happened to you”?
Pointing towards one of the large viewscreens “there’s something out there you do not want to run into”.
The barman looks fearfully towards the viewscreen. Does the blackness of space seem to have a more sinister look about it today or is the fear emanating from pilot affecting him too.
Let me tell you something the pilot murmurs, “I was cruising the trade lanes when a strange comms message came through. I went to investigate why a q-bomb was detonated when nothing really hazardous was showing on the scanner”.
Stopping to wipe the sweat of his face he continues.
“I’ve always thought of myself as a lucky pilot, never really had any fear out there until now.”
Holding his glass of xeerian malt whiskey in two, still trembling hands, he takes a large swallow. “As I got closer damage control alarms started to go off, fuel leak then damage to the galactic hyperdrive, flight controls were unresponsive”.
The barman feels a shiver run down his spine. He cannot help but glance over his shoulder at the blackness of space.
“Then I saw it, a ghost ship one minute it was there the next it was gone”.
The pilot slumps further into his seat. An oppressive silence hangs over the bar.
“Strange days indeed sir, strange days indeed” the barman murmurs.
“I’ll have another whiskey and a packet of Dr Nils Medicinal Mega-Weed please” the pilot says in a slightly stronger voice, “then I suppose I had better get back out there”
Mad the barman thinks, these pilots are all mad.
