Mutabilis, Status Quo Sequel, back on track
Folks,
I'm beginning to get my head around this again, so hopefully not too much longer before it is complete. Sorry for the long leave of absence. God I hate work sometimes.
Due to the nature of the plot (and previous resolution problems) I'm going to write it up in one go, rather than chapter by chapter. But I've worked it out in detail and I think it's a goodie. You mght want to re-read Status Quo in anticipation.
For those of you not familiar with this, the characters from Status Quo get mixed up in that big Elite myth... Raxxla....
Currently it is in the midst of chapter 7, with an expected total of 9 or thereabouts.
Good to see Oolite is still moving forwards. Hopefully a few more adventures will spark off even more enthusiasm.
If there are any budding artists who fancy creating a cover for me again - that would be grand.
Oh. and er... hello everyone who remembers me, and hello to all the new folks who have signed up in the big black in the last year or so!
Cheers,
Drew.

Hi Drew - welcome back. Good to hear there's another novel in the offing. As a would-be author who's given up on his last two novels and the current one has stalled - I doth my cap to you.
I will order a copy, as I did with Status Quo, when it's available.

Hi Guys!
Thought I'd better get a firm missile lock on it all this time around!
I've got two more 'real' books I want to write (real as in I could potential sell them for a profit) but I felt awfully guilty about not finishing Mutabilis and I hate leaving things undone, plus it is fun writing in the Elite/Oolite universe - it's so self contained.
I've got an idea for a third in this series, but I better not get ahead of myself otherwise I'll end up with a Douglas Adams-esk trilogy...
As the great man himself said :

I don't know if the would-be authors in this thread have heard of an app called an outliner, but I find them invaluable for laying out the course of any substantial document or lengthy written piece.DaddyHoggy wrote:Good to hear there's another novel in the offing. If you're curious, I've written a fuller explanation with examples here: http://www.123macmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14707

Drew! Extraordinarily good to see you back on the Oolite forums, and considering more stories...!!
Excellent! I look forward eagerly to what you magick up. More power to your pen! (more likely keyboard, but I hope you get the idea!)

@JB - Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for that - I will investigate further. I've always been a bit of a fan of "The Literary Machine" - steep learning curve but once you've got the hang of it, it's very, very useful.

Glad you're intrigued. As I said in the 123MacMini article, I honestly believe that anyone who tries working with an outliner will get something out of it. IIRC DH, you're a Linux user? Here are some good starting points: TreePad Lite, Java TreePad (JreePad) or Leo.DaddyHoggy wrote:@JB - Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for that - I will investigate further.
I hadn't heard of "The Literary Machine" until you mentioned it. I've since found it and had a good look. It was your turn to teach me something new, DH!DaddyHoggy wrote:I've always been a bit of a fan of "The Literary Machine" - steep learning curve but once you've got the hang of it, it's very, very useful.

@JB - yup, two linux Ubuntu machines - one running 7.04 (Fiesty), the other running 7.10 Gutsy - I have resisted upgrading to 8.04 on my main machine after previous attempt to automatically go from 7.04 to 7.10 was erm, less than successful... So thanks for the additional info.
