linux performance tips?

Post by stardotstar »

Hi giuys,

I've been a bit quiet for a while; steadily if slowly progressing in the game.

I can report a wonderful experience in migrating to the Linux release.

I run Gentoo linux on a number of somewhat unusual platforms (only somewhat) the Intel MacBook Pro (series 1) with the ATI accellerated card and my latest project a lean mean gentoo build on the sub-sub note book ASUS EeePC - the base model 701.

For those of you who don't know its specs it is an underclocked 900MHz Pentium M type processor which runs at 640MHz.

It features 512MB Ram and a measley 4G internal (soldered onto the main board eek) sdhd - I use 8G in the sdhc slot on the side.

Anyway I have OpenGL running ok and glxgears yields 400FPS+ at the 630 underclocked mode and 600+ when overclocked back to 100% capacity - fan on full.

The graphics are modest but run Compiz-Fusion well and so I am wondering where to begin to get bett (ie playable) performance with this intel915 card so I can have my game with me when I travel on the little pc.

Any thoughts guys?

and all the props in the world to the devs who made the installer such a no-brainer.

Incidently the game reports 7-9 FPS in wireframe mode.

4FPS in reduced detai on or off /l non wireframe

Not sure if this graphics card is going to be capable of making the game playable but I am researching it.

I have also tried an xinit oolite and checked in full screen and can't get more than 9 or 10 fps - 4 with anything being rendered.

Can anyone suggest any tests or settings I could try with my graphics capabilities?
