Most users ever?

Post by DaddyHoggy »

Most users ever online was 291 on Mon Jul 16, 2007 1:41 am
Does anybody know why - I was off in the wilderness of RL at the time - but that's a staggering number compared to the 1-10 that normal float around when I'm on (I'm often the "1")

I guess that must have been at the height of the Great Spam War...

Those were the days, when we could hack and blast at will, and shooting at diplomats from other boards was only considered a small faux pas...
Nowadays our defences are so unassailable that there must be cobwebs on the FLaK 88mm.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Wasn't that high count at about the time Oolite was featured in a magazine article about open source Mac developments? It might have been Linux, actually...

At the time we all agreed that these "users" were in fact mostly spambots. There were a couple of those "records" following each other in quite a short intervall, and it suddenly stopped as soon as the anti-spam measurements were taken. That seems to be an indicator. 8)

Unfortunately the high number now prevents the statistics-freaks among us now from knowing what an actual and true most-users-ever-number would be.

The control panel should let you reset the user counts.

The best indicator is probably the Berlios downloads.

Here is, for the edification and entertainment of the newer audiences, the precedent and a historical thread related to that peak.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.
